I love reading Moody's books. He writes in a very accessible voice, and I feel like I would have loved to hear him preach. Very down-to-earth, plain-speaking. I love reading Moody's books. Certain Men D. L. Moody is a great teacher and preacher , he has great wisdom and insight. I enjoyed his book with all but one exception, his liberal embellishments of the Biblical accounts. He begins by using the correct scriptures, then adds to the story. For example,"I can imagine that Abraham talks to Isaac and tells him how hard it is to offer him up." He further adds, "They fell on their faces, and prayed together. After prayer I can see the old father take his boy to his bosom.." This is n Certain Men D. L. If we do not adhere to the purity of scriptures, very soon the word of God becomes corrupted by our human error.

Challenge me with knowledge First of all I love that so many Bible resources are free on my Kindle. Dwight Moody always gets me to think more about what I read in the Bible and this book is a great example of that. What do we really know about men in the Bible aside from the passages? Very little to go on because like a lot of us men, these guys are long on action and short on words. Thank you for another great resource for my library

Moody offers a unique take on some familiar (and some not-as-familiar) stories from the Bible. It wasn't the best book I've ever read, but I'm glad I read it. Insightful as ever, even decades after its writing. This inspiring account of several important men in the old and new testaments will evoke nothing less than a quickening fire within thy breast, as if to say where have you gone oh heart of mine, why hast thou forgotten me?

Inspiring and Educational I found the book both inspiring and educational. Written by a man who dedicated his life to reaching the lost, the book is filled with life and death matters, always with the cross of Christ in view. And Moody describes these men of the Bible in such a way that revealed much I did not know and much I long to know more about. What a master of describing this word of God such that men can know without a doubt the stuff of godly character and integrity. I'm researching 19th century evangelicism and thought this might be a good contrast/comparison to someone like Henry Ward Beecher, the staunch abolitionist. I was surprised at how modern the language sounded. It gave me an idea of the way that religious ideas were to be spread through anecdotal applications of lessons of the bible, rather than through specialist leaders, but I think I'll keep reading other speeches and tracts to find more expressive forms of preaching. Well-written This is well-written and well designed too. The topics are funny and truthful Christian dogmas. But are these realities? If read with faith, a Christian faith, then yes, everything is based on reality. The challenge is always the same: is there hell or heaven? Well, God said so. Who should know better? But idea looks man-made. Out of fear of death, man created the paradise in the life to come.

Excellent read A short, readable book with a couple of theological errors but this did not detract from the overall lessons to be learned from these men of the Bible, some of whom I had not given as much thought to as men of great faith. The author puts a personal and speculative insight onto the possible ruminations of these men. Well worth a read.

I absolutely loved it. Naaman, the Penitent and The Thief at the Cross were the parts that stuck with me. Now I understand why Moody is one of the most respected. I will read again. It is one of my favorites. One thing about Moody. You do not read his opinion. You read what was revealed to him. You can see it.

What a great book that stands the test of time [written over 100 years ago]. 7 sermons on Abraham, Moses, Naaman, Nehemiah, Herod and John the Baptist, the man born blind and Joseph of Arimathea, and the penitent thief comprise this little volume. Moody is easy to read, interesting and spiritually helpful. Mood is profound in his simplicity and simple in his profundity. Highly recommended.

Quick and easy read. Simple yet insightful and convicting. Moody uses a few men of the Bible to draw out some really key lessons and introduce new insight into the stories of some lesser thought of men.

I picked up this book because 1. it was free on iBooks (lol) 2. I wanted to feel more connected to my faith. Moody did great in explaining the takeaways of the several stories of the Bible, even adding in his own thoughts, expanding on the characters' moralities. Very readable and insightful. Reminded of the men of the Bible who were called Lord, remember me. As you look to this writing in light of scripture there is truth. How we need preaching to remind us of our weakness made perfect in Christ.
