Finding out one of the bad men are none other than the one that broke into the towers and got away with important papers regarding Bianca and the jewels Suzanna in the fourth book has no desire to love again. After divorcing an abusive husband who left her with no money and no selfesteem, she is only concerned about her precious two children and her new business. After Max finds information regarding the jewels and Bianca's lover Christian, Suzanna goes to find Christians grandson. Holt Bradford is still the same as she remembers him but now has grown into a handsome man. Being an ex-cop and finally wanting to help Suzanna find the jewels, he starts searching for the man who is determined to get the jewels at any cost. Pridictable like the others, the men act more like abusive Neanderthal's. I had diffculty believing that such strong women could fall head over heels so fast and let these men treat them the way they did. But...I really loved the mystery of Bianca, her death and the emeralds. I was pretty close at solving the mysteries. I don't want to spoil the story. All in all, these two were my favorites, only because the mystery unfolded. An older Roberts books, but I did enjoy them. I would certainly recommend reading them in sequence. One more in the series.

Classic Roberts cheese! Why pair a nerd with a "lazy" (but secretly active because we all know Roberts does not abide chubby women) chill redhead? Why pair an abuse victim with a guy with weird anger issues? I mean, Roberts understands that the average American man (as of the 1990s) tended to express any worry/concern/fear as anger directed at the woman in his life, but seemed to accept this as the natural order of things. Falling in love (and getting engaged within weeks of meeting), seances, seaside breezes, blooming flowers, old castles, jewels and intense family connections...another Roberts novel that is predictable, yet a satisfying read.

He recovers In the Calhoun family home with his memory missing a bit. But when he does remember everything he’s quick to warn them about Caulfield. He starts researching into Bianca’s past and discovers a unhappy marriage with her abusive husband and a painter who was a lover of hers Christian. Max and Lilah start falling in love with each other and make it through some obstacles before getting their happy ending. Especially after Hawkins nearly kills them. This book was entertaining and enjoyable book to read. In Suzanna’s Surrender following the events of the previous book the latest information on Christian the painter is the grandfather of Hoyt Bradford believing he’s the key to unlock what happened to Bianca did she really jump to her death or was it foul play especially since she left two small children behind. Suzanna Calhoun after a horrible marriage and divorce has started a landscaping and gardening business to support herself and her two young children Alex six years old and Jenny five years old. Thanks to the emerald business is forced to encounter about Bradford and ex policeman burned out from his job of over ten years dealing with scumbag criminals that nearly got him killed. He’s always had a thing for Suzanna for the last fifteen years hasn’t changed but with this dangerous business involving lost emeralds and dangerous thieves still on the loose he gets drawn deeper and deeper with the Calhouns. He and Suzanna give into their feelings and he finds himself falling deeper for her and her children. William Livingston is still obsessed with the emerald necklace and has already nearly got Amanda and Lilah nearly killed because of his greed. Things come to a thrilling conclusion with Suzanna discovering where her great grandmother Bianca hid the necklace and Livingston holding her at gun point before falling to his death through the tower window the same place where Bianca was thrown out the window to her death. A lovely happy ending with Hoyt and Suzanna getting engaged I enjoyed reading this series it was fascinating to read.

Lilah and Suzanna: The Calhoun Women is by Nora Roberts. As usual, she writes a powerful book which is realistic. Her characters come alive and the story is always suspenseful. This is actually two books in one. The first book is For The Love of Lilah. The Calhoun sisters are fed up with the press and the coverage of the missing emerald necklace. They know the story of Bianca and Christopher but don’t know where she hid the necklace. The Calhoun sisters are fed up with the press and the coverage of the missing emerald necklace. They know the story of Bianca and Christopher but don’t know where she hid the necklace. Already, a thief has been looking for the necklace and Amanda was almost hurt. People have come into the gardens and tried to dig up the treasure. Lilah has picked up a treasure map as she talked at the nature center. What she doesn’t know is that she gave the map to the thief when he came to take a tour and talk to her. A few weeks ago, Lilah knew a storm was brewing and went down to the beach to watch it come in. She just happened to be there when Max Quartermain was nearing shore and almost drowned. She managed to get him to safety and up to the house. He refused to go to the doctor as he felt fine after waking up. He just didn’t remember things that happened recently. He didn’t know that he had taken a summer job to catalogue papers Mr. Caufield said were his family papers. Until he inadvertently overheard Mr. Caufield and the Captain talking about stealing the papers and ultimately the jewels, he had no idea he was in trouble too. When he does remember, he starts helping the family with their papers and hopes to help find the necklace; but only if Lilah and the other sisters are out of harm’s way. He wants to help the police find Mr. Caufield or whoever he is impersonating now. The second book is Suzanna’s surrender. Max has found out that Bianca’s lover, Christian, had a son and grandson who lived in the cottage he did. His grandson, Holt, is a retired police detective who now lives in the house but he has never heard the legend. He has trouble believing Suzanna about Bianca and Christian’s love when she first confronts him about it. He said he would reconsider if he ever believed it to be true. When he finds Bianca’s portrait among his Grandfather’s paintings and sees that Lilah is the image of her grandmother, he believes and offers his help. Mainly he wants to make sure Suzanna and her children are just fine. After talking to the Calhoun women and their husbands, he sees the danger is real so he hires on as a part time employee at Suzanne’s gardening center. Can he protect her and her children?

This combination book was a great read. I had already read about Amanda, C.C. and now on to Lilah and Suzanna. Lilah is the first story in this book and it is great. He has been working against the sisters, even if it was unintentional. But I sure liked him. He is such a good hero. This was beautifully written. I love Nora Roberts writing style. She makes her characters so human. Suzanna's Surrender is another good book. Suzanna Calhoun is the mother of two small children. She wasn't looking for a man. She just keeps finding herself drawn to Holt Bradford. Her divorce was not pleasant and she did not want to bring anyone into her children's lives. Holt is the ex-cop that keeps showing up in her life. She knew him before he left town and now that he is back, she is interested. He is not gentle and easy like Maxwell and Trent or even Sloan. This was also the end of the mystery treasure hunt that has been entangled through all the other books. This series was an excellent one. Each sister was different but they all had a strength about them. I loved how the children played a key part of this book.

This is book two of this saga. This one is about the two other sisters Lilah, and Suzanna. You must read the other book I listed first, or find a book with all four stories in it. This is an older book series, so it will be out there. Progress on finding clues about their ancestor Bianca's jewels is still progressing. The books also have their Aunt Coco, who help raise them, and believes in signs, and that Bianca is still walking the house in ghost form, especially in the tower. Both women are in for surprises in this book, and romance of course. There is also the old journal to find, and the gems. It is a lovely book, and part two of the four original stories. I have owned them since the late 80's, but it was so good to dig them out to read them again. I love the cranky great aunt that makes an appearance in this book. She was the daughter of Bianca, and only 5 when she died. The ending was wonderful, and exciting. I love that about Nora Roberts. I hate sad endings. her older works remind me again why I still reach out for her books, at a store, or library. She is a wonderful writer to loose yourself in.

Continuing the necklace treasure hunt, Lilah and Suzanna get their turns at the mystery solving. Lilah's "fate" was a surprise. I expected more of the macho types like Trent and Sloan in the first two books, but Max is adorable as the nerdy professor who wants to write and cannot see how the sexy Lilah would look twice at him. It makes for a lot of misunderstandings between the two when they don't understand how each sees themselves. It is very well done. I didn't expect her to fall for Holt, an ex-cop, rough in manners and approach, when she is clearly a gentle woman and a loving mother of two. The interactions with the children through all four books are delightful, both with the men and the women. Ms. Roberts excels at kid language. I loved little Alex's wrong word use, always so close but with a totally different meaning than intended.

This was the 2nd book in the Calhoun Sisters trilogy. Hard to put down--as are most of Nora Roberts's books. I did find that the story of Suzanna was the exact same story as the story of Suzanna in the 3rd book--"Suzanna and Megan". I wrote about Lilah in the other Calhoun omnibus. Suzanna is told to contact Holt Bradford a descendant of the painter who was the lover of Bianca to see if there were any hints passed down in that family of what happened to the emerald necklace. Will history repeat itself or will Bianca be able to help her great-granddaughter.

I was an only child often left to my own devices. Nora Roberts books were the most plentiful pieces of reading material available in our house- so i read almost all of the ones she had writted up until I was about 15. Lame, I know. I remember this series being my favorite.

Once again Nora Roberts out does herself with The Calhoun Women. Has some action, mystery, murder, drama, and of course love. The heroines are well-written and you get drawn into their lives until you want to know the whole family.

Received via the bookobsessed VBB in 2008. Although I read the first two Calhoun women books (I had them as a double feature) eons ago, I somehow neglected to pick this one up.
