The truth is...…You don’t have to be perfect to delight in the Lord. You don’t have to have it all together, or have the perfectly balanced life. “My mind says go, My heart says lead.” The title of the first poem in Heather Bixler’s Desires of my heart sets the tone beautifully. Life isn’t about doing the right thing, but doing the right thing is about life lived free in the Lord. Similarly, desiring and reading God’s word isn’t about fulfilling some to-do list and looking for answers; it’s the pulse of a heart tuned to God. This short book of meditations invites the reader to ponder the difference, with Bible references reinforcing the messages, and a nice progression from pride through humility to peace and freedom from fear. Which desires of your heart compete with God? Wise lessons from the author’s life and the lives of friends, thought-provoking questions, and well-explained insights into human weakness make this an interesting , practical read, tuned to the questions of a modern reader and the problems of modern life. “It’s not about what we want, it’s about what God desires,” says the author at the end of this book. Hopefully readers will share that view and enjoy seeing how it plays out. Disclosure: I was lucky enough to buy this ebook when it was offered free.

What does it take to delight in the Lord? This short concise read leads thru the word of encouragement and yes even delight. We start in the inside, what is our heart condition in respect to who God is. This can be very painful and if it is not, you are probably missing something. It's painful because we have to be broken. When I start thinking any of the above, then I know my heart is not aligned with who God is and so I begin the process as to the reason why. I think this is a life long process however, in Heather's book she is very real with who she is and who God is according to his word. I don't think you can go wrong reading because she gets to the heart. When you begin to delight in the Lord, it's becomes easier to read your bible, tithing and serving in the church and where God has placed you. We get the cart ahead of the horse when it becomes being a Christian.

Desires of My Heart - Devotional eBook on Psalm 37: 4 by Heather Bixler is heart-warming and inspiring eBook devotional based on Psalm 37:4, which says “Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart” (NIV). I love Psalm 51:17, “The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God” (NLT). And Debbie’s testimony of supernatural provision by God in these challenging times is an encouragement for every one of us to delight ourselves in the Lord! The author concludes by informing us that “through our delight in [God], He is glorified. And that is all that truly matters in this life.” I couldn’t agree more! I recommend it! I will award it 5 stars out of 5.

This is a very readable and encouraging book about strengthening our spiritual life. It is fairly short and to the point, yet the author’s style is warm and companionable. She reminds us that true joy and peace and delight in the Lord comes when we ask for His help to clear out the obstacles that impede the Spirit’s work inside us. She goes on to examine these obstacles and how to deal with them. This isn’t new territory for the Christian, but I felt I needed a reminder and a spiritual tune-up. This book is what I needed to remind me of the contentment that comes from humble surrender of anything that is in the way of our whole-hearted relationship with God. I received a review copy from the author but the opinions expressed are truly mine.

Once again, Heather Bixler makes you stop and gets you thinking. She has a gift from God. This is something all Christians probably should read from time to time to remind themselves who should be leading our lives and who is the one we should desire. So often we get consumed with doing what others wants us to do or what we think is right in our eyes. Desires of My Heart teaches us that it is important to follow the will of God to seek him for guidance in every area of our lives.

Desires of My Heart – Meditation on Psalm 37:4, written by Heather Bixler, touched home for me in a lot of ways. I felt as I was reading through the pages of this book that it was written just for me. The author is very down to earth, inspired by the Holy Spirit, and talked about real-life issues – situations I can relate to. Due to the things going on in my life currently, I read this book at the right time. One of the reasons I wanted to read this book is because I have Psalm 37:4 stenciled on one of the walls in my home where I see it every day. Until reading this book, I didn’t fully understand what delighting myself in the Lord actually meant. Now I know that freedom comes from total and complete submission to God and His will for my life, even when that hurts. Trusting in God requires submitting to Him and is more rewarding than living a life that relies on my own understanding, doubts and fears. This book challenged me to become broken and let go of control in order to trust God on a deeper level. Heather emphasizes how living for God should be our motivation - not pride, not fear, not wants, needs or wishes. She also stresses that letting go of fear in lieu of clinging to faith helps me unite my heart with God and become one with Him. Being obedient is how I delight myself in the Lord. Heather shares openly and honestly about some of her personal experiences and why this verse is important to her too. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for some encouragement in their everyday life. I will be reading it over and over again. 5 stars all around. Please note: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I didn't know what my expectations were with this book when I read it, but since Psalm 37:4 is one of my favorite verses of the Bible, I had to read it. This devotion is a great reminder that God will take care of us.

I enjoyed this easy to read simple view of trusting God. By simple I do not mean childish. I mean that reading it made the idea of trusting God - with hopes, dreams, plans, and the secret desires of the heart - seem simple to understand. sometimes, trusting God can seem like something beyond my grasp, but Heather's heartfelt story of learning to trust God was moving! it's z REAL journey of struggle and surrender, and I appreciated her sharing. This book contains a great truth that we should align our heart's desire with God's desires and will and we will have greater peace because He is in control. It also contains several personal stories by other bloggers. However, there is not much substance beyond that. It's not necessarily a bad thing if you know that going in, but I had hoped for more. I found peace of heart as I read her words. Some times it's not easy following Gods wishes but if we make them our "desires of the heart" and not fight or try to do things our own way then God will make our way easy and peaceful. I was pretty disappointed in this book. It is repetitive, too short, and has almost no depth to it. There are definitely better devotionals out there.
