In theory I would LOVE to be able to make homemade pet food for my cats. A few years ago when my husband and I drastically changed our diet by only buying our meat and milk at the farmer's market and as much produce as I can too, I reevaluated our cat's food too and changed them to a more natural-based cat food (Blue Buffalo) that doesn't have any "animal by-product" included. I figured if I didn't want to eat mystery meat from the grocery store why should my cats eat the even worse by-products In theory I would LOVE to be able to make homemade pet food for my cats. I figured if I didn't want to eat mystery meat from the grocery store why should my cats eat the even worse by-products left over from that mystery meat! As much as I would like to make their food it would be pretty pricey. Plus, one of my cats is pretty picky and the other LOVES any kind of food. I could see one cat eating all the homemade food and the other one either not getting much or forcing me to have to feed them separately. I think the premise is great, but not realistic for most people. I did appreciate that she does include a list of some "high-quality commercial food brands" as well. Overall, if you have lots of extra time and money this would be great for your pets.

Pretty decent book. It's a little repetitive in some places when it comes to the information on how to feed and watching their behavior, stools, etc. I'm pretty sure the author's pets eat much better than most Americans. Haha. I got a good idea of the ratios of organ meat, veggies, bones, and muscle meat that needs to be in their diet. There were also creative recipes in the back with proper serving sizes for the weight of your pet. Pretty decent book. I am very happy with the ease of the recipes and my dog loves them! He has such a sensitive stomach but has had no ill effects from any of the recipes we've tried. Highly recommend! I didn't find this very accessible for every day use, nor does it suit a beginner. Lovely recipes, but I didn't find it that helpful. I didn't find this very accessible for every day use, nor does it suit a beginner. Lovely recipes, but I didn't find it that helpful.

It wasn't too bad. I gained a lot from the book. At this point in time I am a prey model raw feeder so different principles, but it has provided a lot of inspiration! It wasn't too bad. Brought to you by OBS reviewer Kayt In light of so many pet food recalls and diagnosed illness and death in pets from commercial foods and treats, The Healthy Homemade Pet Food Cookbook reaches readers in the perfect mind set to try the recipes included in this book. As much as any pet owner wants to do the best for their furry loved ones, this book tries to help the reader accomplish this desire. Some of the recipes seem very complicated to me, but then I am not an expert cook. Some of the ingredients are not readily available in all areas, but I think the reader can get a good idea of what it takes to make the recipes. The Healthy Homemade Pet Food Cookbook also includes treats for your cat or dog. The reader can find tips on making sure your pet is getting the necessary nutrients when feeding a home cooked diet. There are plenty of pictures and the instructions are very easy to understand. You can find tips of how to prepare different foods to induldge your pet. This book is not preachy as some whole food pet cookbooks can be. It is not dumbed down or written in highbrow phrases either. This book is written as though the author actually does cook these meals and fully believes in what she writes. This cannot always be said when writers are tackling trendy topics. I was pleasantly surprised to find a section on commercial foods. The author lists the best foods both dry and wet and treats as well that any pet owner can purchase. This made me like the book much more than I had before I got to this section. I felt like I was not being accused of mistreating my dog if I did not feed him whole, home cooked meals. Many of us just cannot do it every day, all the time or even sporadically. Reading the “Some Favorite High-Quality Commercial Food Brands, (If you cannot make your own food), section gave me a wonderful feeling instead of feeling like a failure. Barbara Laino also has included foods with high nutritional value you can add to your pets’ meals. While I did not give this book a high rating, it is only because I just did not find it useful for me. I think anyone looking to change their pets’ meals to whole food home cooked will really enjoy The Healthy Homemade Pet Food Cookbook. It is full of good quality recipes for dogs and cats to feed for their full diet and also treats. It really is easy to understand. Photos are bright and crisp to help get an idea of what the end product will be. I would recommend this cookbook for pets to anyone who is interested in changing their furry babies’ diets to home made. Even if you are not going to completely delete commercial foods I think you will find some recipes to make for treats, special occasions or ingredients to add to their diets.

I love my cats. They were adopted in May of 2013 and have already provided so much joy in my life. Because I love them, I want the best for them. This involves staying away from the processed, unhealthy cat food that you find at the local grocery store. I have had them on Blue Buffalo wet and dry food, but it gets pretty expensive, not to mention it’s still not as healthy as fresh meals. So I was so excited when I received a copy of The Healthy Homemade Pet Food Cookbook by Barbara Taylor-Laino, I love my cats. So I was so excited when I received a copy of The Healthy Homemade Pet Food Cookbook by Barbara Taylor-Laino, published by Fair Winds Press. Taylor-Laino begins her book by talking about the importance of having a variety of fresh meals for pets, especially organic food. She talks about foods that are very healthy for pets, but also has a list of foods that you should not give your pets because they are very harmful to them. The part of this book that I loved the most was of course, the recipe section. Taylor-Laino provides 75 different recipes to give your pet variety. Some of them are raw, others cooked. Some contain grain while others do not. What I especially loved about the recipe section is that she included several meals that are for the entire household. If you follow the recipe, you can feed your spouse and children the meal, and also give a serving to your cats and dogs. I tried the Zucchini and Eggs, which turned out to be a success. My kitties liked it a lot. I also gave some to my parents’ cat and he devoured it! I plan on making them more fresh meals in the future, not only for the health benefits, but because they really enjoy it. If you desire to save money on pet food and to see your pet reach its full health potential, then this book would be a great read for you! Your pet will thank you by allowing you to love on them for many happy and healthy years.

tremendous resource for helping you learn to integrate whole, real foods into your pet's diet. The author is highly practical in her approach - providing you with the tools needed to do everything from simply supplement a commercial food diet with whole foods to replacing commercial dog/cat foods entirely. She has serving suggestions and offers ways to ensure that the pet's overall diet is balanced. The book also has an excellent break down of key nutrients in various foods and herbs. tremendous resource for helping you learn to integrate whole, real foods into your pet's diet. While I believe this is a great resource for information and recipes, it shouldn't be the only resource. Research is always great! On another note, I have trouble with certain animal/food aspects and couldn't bring myself to using organs, necks, etc in my kitchen. This just wasn't the right choice for me, although my dogs may have loved it. While I believe this is a great resource for information and recipes, it shouldn't be the only resource. I would love to start making my dogs homemade food, but the reality is that I probably never will. It didn't stop me from reading - and loving - this book, however. The pictures in this book are just gorgeous, and I loved the author's information on what our pets should be eating and why. I copied down a few of the recipes for treats, and I know I'll at least give those a try at some point. In an ideal world, I'd make homemade food for our pets. This book was informative about nutrition and pet food basics. I'd like to revisit it later when I could dedicate time to making a few meals for the animals! In an ideal world, I'd make homemade food for our pets. Atliek vien iekārtot bioloģisko saimniecību un pēc šīs grāmatas gatavot ēdienu arī sev. Ja bez jokiem, tad liela daļa informācijas ir vērtīga un izmantojama.
