A great addition to the hilarious antics of the Sinful crime fighters. The ability of this series to cause me laugh out load moments remind me of early Stephanie Plum books.

Swamp Team 3 is the fourth book in the twenty-book Miss Fortune Mystery Series. Character arcs carry over, so, typically, starting at book 1 is best. Undercover CIA agent Fortune Redding and Ida Belle and Gertie are going strong in this book and referring to themselves at Swamp Team 3! The mystery centers around Ally, Fortune’s new friend, when her house falls prey to an arsonist. Complicating matters was Carter and Fortune’s fledgling relationship getting in the way of the Swamp Team 3 bulldozing into the investigation. I mostly enjoyed the development of Fortune’s character arc in this book. She’s been in town for a month at this point. And she’s developing feelings for people, beginning to hold them as dear friends. Having friends was something she had never dealt with before given her constant focus on mission opts. She’s also dealing with guilt for lying about her undercover situation, pretending to be Sandy-Sue, not informing people besides Ida Belle and Gertie – who figured out her skills far exceeded that of a librarian within the first few days of her arrival. So, she’s lying to Ally, who’s staying in her house. Worse yet, she has developed an attachment to Carter, beyond any feeling she’s had before for a man, and lying to him was not a good basis to begin a relationship upon. Sinful and its residents had found a way to make me take a hard look at my past, my present, and my future. As much as I enjoyed this developing relationship between Carter and Fortune, this book was not without its issues. Swamp Team 3 was the weakest book I’ve read in this series so far. There were three factors that disappointed me: Ally’s character, decreased humor, and a ho-hum mystery plot. Ally has been fairly bland throughout the series, but fine as a side character with little page time. She was not the best character to form an entire mystery around. She’s prone to being saccharine , whining, and shrinking. Pair that with finding less to laugh out loud about in this story line, had me skimming a few pages - something I never done before with this series. And the mystery was less interesting than its predecessors and was resolved without a feeling of suspense (even when a situation occurred that should have felt that way). And the final connection to Ally felt contrived. However, that does not mean the book isn’t worth reading. For me, this book just dropped below the high mark set previously. One thing did tickle me though…and if you've read any previous books you know what a big deal this was for Ida Belle... Ida Belle said, “I sold the Corvette.” She shrugged. “It was a great car, but I didn’t find it exciting any more. It was time to try something new.” Wait until you find out what she replaced the corvette with! He-he. I think I would like to be Ida Belle when I grow up. I am looking forward to my next installment about Fortune Redding in this series, Gator Bait.

I really do enjoy the Miss Fortune books, but as I've said in another review, the premise of her being undercover is really thin. I mean, an assassin hiding out in small town Louisiana, I can get on board with. But in the meantime, I'll enjoy the hell out of Fortune, Idabel, Gertie, Ally, and Carter's (again, forgive me on any name misspellings since these are audio listens for me) byplays as these books continue -- and try to continue not thinking about the paper-thin premise. At the very least, imagining Gertie throwing dollar bills at the TV while watching Magic Mike is pretty dang cute.

This series keeps getting better and better! I just had the pleasure of reading Swamp Team 3 by Jana DeLeon and let me tell you, this book had me laughing from start to finish. Swamp Team 3 by Jana Deleon is the 4th book in the Miss Fortune Mystery series. Has it really only been three weeks since Fortune arrived in Sinful, Louisiana? It feels like three years. Ok, that may be because I've been reading these for the last three years. That's one book a year, with the exception of year one when I read two of them. That should tell you how uncompelling (Is that a word?) this series is to me. I pick one up occasionally when I want something that will make me laugh. Unfortunately I always end up being disappointed. These books don't make me laugh nearly as much as I'm hoping they will, but yet I keep coming back for more. WHY? I wish I knew the answer to that question. My best guess is that these books are filling some home sickness that I have for Louisiana. There were a couple of things I liked about this book, the little touch of romance, and the friendship between Fortune and Ally. Other than that I thought this was a bit lack luster. Nothing in the story made me really laugh at all, and there is usually one thing that does in these books. I also felt like there were too many things going on in this mystery. The addition of the stalker was just too much. Now that I've read this fourth book in the series and it was the least humorous one of the bunch, I'm going to force myself to give up this series. I really don't need to waste my time on it any more. I would much rather spend that time on something that really makes me laugh. I'm going to try reading more of Molly Harper's books but if anyone has any suggestions I would love them! Review also posted at Writings of a Reader

Swamp Team 3 by Jana Deleon was pure fun from start to finish. I love Fortune and with Ida Belle and Gertie by her side you know there will be total chaos and laughter. This time they are trying to protect Ally from an arsonist and a "creeper". Of course, there is more going on than there appears. Plenty of twists, only a few suspects and too many things that can go wrong and do. I'm already on the wait list at my library for the next one in this series. I might need a support group. I cannot stop reading/listening to this series. I just finished my fourth book in just about as many days and I don't see myself stopping any time soon. I feel like I should pace myself though because what happens when I've finished them all? Swamp Team 3 is book 4 in the Miss Fortune Mystery series. I feel like this title would have been so much more appropriate for the third book in the series but that's neither here nor there. In this book, Fortune, Gertie, and I I might need a support group. I feel like this title would have been so much more appropriate for the third book in the series but that's neither here nor there. In this book, Fortune, Gertie, and Ida Belle have a tough mystery to figure out because the clues just aren't lining up the way they should. Someone tried to burn Ally's house down, there is a creeper/stalker, and even a murder; but how do they all tie together? With Fortune's feelings for Carter deepening, she is feeling more and more guilty for lying to him, ignoring his demands for her to stay out of police matters, and stepping on his toes and creating additional work for him. But ultimately all bets are off when it comes to making sure Ally is safe. I figured out who the creeper was pretty early on so it was a bit frustrating that it took the girls and Carter so long to realize it but otherwise the mystery and who-dun-it was super fun to watch them solve. This has been a great cozy mystery series so far and I recommend it. I am rating this book, Swamp Team 3, 4-4.5 stars. I'm only knocking it down to the 4 stars because I am starting to rate the books in the series against each other and this one wasn't as incredible as book 2, which is my favorite so far, and not quite as good as book 3. If you like your books with a nice dose of humor, this is the series for you. I have found myself laughing out loud too many times to count. As far as the narration goes, this is the same narrator as the first 3 books so that makes me happy. It looks like she narrates the whole series which is great for continuity and listening to each book back to back. I have been really happy with this narrator but I noticed some of her voices slipping in this book. There were several times where Carter, Ida Belle, and Walter all had exactly the same voice. Other than that, the narration was pretty good.

I know this is fluff and that it's not perfect. But consider- the god tier concept of two senior citizens who are agents of chaos and who has recruited an equally chaotic young woman to be their muscle. It's beautiful. There's a local Sherrifs Deputy who has been bald-face lied to SO MANY TIMES and each time is glorious. 3. I also just really like stories about outsiders in small towns? I mean, I have no idea how it actually is IRL but in fiction small towns in the Southern bits of the USA are very quirky and quirky is fun to read about. 4. I mean, don't get me wrong. I don't think this book will work for everyone, and not just because of the usual reasons of how much fluff you can tolerate. There are a lot of guns in here and a lot of gun-loving and I can suspend my disbelief because I'm in another country where it's hard to own one of these things, but the pervasive "oh this is normal" of it is a little concerning. 5. There's also the hot woman who does not know she is hot and is effortlessly hot in a girlie way while internally claiming she knows nothing about all these girlie things. It's more prevalent in some books than others, and I think we may see more of it in the future because the romance is gaining steam. 6. I don't actually dislike the romance, I think the two characters both have a sense of humor and they are entertaining when they get together. I'm a little put out by how the series tries So Hard to make sure that the love interest is on Fortune's level when it comes to badassery, to the extent of him having served in the Marine Corps and all that. Which, really. It was unnecessary. 7. I love all the women in this series. Effortless hotness aside, Fortune is an deeply weird and very entertaining. The old ladies are even better. The only scenes with Ida Belle and Gertie that are not great are the ones where they (founders of a club defined by their non-attachment to marriage) make googly eyes at Fortune's dates with the love interest. It makes sense for Ally the sweet girl next door bff, but it makes no sense for the rest of Swamp Team 3. 8. Anyway, it was fun to read. I foresee plot and character problems brought about by the pushing of the romance to the foreground in the future but eh. I'm not there yet.

I have to confess that I am so glad today is a holiday and due to dental surgery I have to stay at home. Why? Because I am able to do a reading marathon of the 'Miss Fortune' series and no one was there to hear me laugh hysterically while reading "Swamp Team 3." This time Fortune receives a phone call that Ally's house caught fire and she is suffering from some smoke inhalation. As Fortune, Gertie, and Ida Belle aka Swamp Team 3 rush off to check on Alley, they insist she stays with Fortune until I have to confess that I am so glad today is a holiday and due to dental surgery I have to stay at home. Why? Because I am able to do a reading marathon of the 'Miss Fortune' series and no one was there to hear me laugh hysterically while reading "Swamp Team 3." This time Fortune receives a phone call that Ally's house caught fire and she is suffering from some smoke inhalation. As Fortune, Gertie, and Ida Belle aka Swamp Team 3 rush off to check on Alley, they insist she stays with Fortune until the repairs are made and the house is habitable. As the fire department moves to complete their investigation a handsome fireman named David seems to have fallen on Ally's radar. However, later that night a creeper is lurking outside Fortune's house. When she goes out to investigate, she is attack by a tomcat and Deputy LeBlanc shows up. Carter has now asked Ally out for dinner and although she knows it be better to refuse she accepts anyway. However, while on their way to New Orleans, they have to turnaround when Carter gets news of a murder. Here we go again and this is just week four of Ally living in Sinful. This time the killer will give the team and Carter a merry Chase, that is until the FBI shows up at their door. Things continue to stay interesting on the Bayou including Fortune's winning competition in the wet tee shirt contest. Yep, you heard me. I love these books especially the crazy characters. They provide such humor in the face of intrigue, suspense and incredible action. What's not to love? Do yourself a favor and pick up on this series and book. You won't regret it.
