Lethal Letters is the 6th book in the 8-book Books By The Bay Mysteries series by Ellery Adams. This is by far my favorite book in the series so far! The plot was suspenseful, interesting and complex. While finding old letters and a time capsule that lead to a mystery is not a new plot device, I liked the creative way it was done in this book. It was a little bit of a different twist on an old standby with lots of suspects, twists and turns. In my reviews of previous books I have commented that t Lethal Letters is the 6th book in the 8-book Books By The Bay Mysteries series by Ellery Adams. While finding old letters and a time capsule that lead to a mystery is not a new plot device, I liked the creative way it was done in this book. It was a little bit of a different twist on an old standby with lots of suspects, twists and turns. In my reviews of previous books I have commented that this series annoys me a little bit because it's just a bit too much like women's fiction and I felt that got in the way of the mystery portion of the plot. And I felt previous stories concentrated too much time on the relationship between the main character and her boyfriend, and their sex life. There are only so many times I want to hear about her cop lover's nipples.... This cozy series has adult situations and sex in it a lot -- not graphic....just a bit more gettin' busy than is usually in a cozy mystery series. The series is definitely a blend of women's fiction and mystery. I prefer less women's fiction/romance and more mystery.... I was happy reading this book because it really stuck to task -- finding the killer and solving the mystery about a time capsule and letters -- and the romance portion was background character development. No descriptions of men's nipples! Hooray! (Now before any men get defensive and ask me if I have a problem with mipples.....I don't. I just want more mystery....less naked time. It gets a bit melodramatic when male characters are saying flowery love stuff that no male ever says outside a bad romance novel.... This time, the blend was a bit more even. I don't think I did any eyerolls at bad dialogue the entire time. Definitely my favorite book in the series so far! I'd definitely say this series calls for some parental guidance if a child wants to read it. PG13 probably at least. Adult situations. Sex. Some cussing. Nothing over the top. Just a bit more adult stuff than is usually in a cozy series. But....this series makes up for it with complex plots and interesting characters. Moving on to book #7.....Writing All Wrongs.

What can I say that I haven't already said about this wonderful and surprisingly good book series? I thought a certain arc was going to go in a predictable direction. But no, it made me go, oh thank you for surprising me book. Much appreciate it. As for the mystery, I kind of guessed one of the twists what with how much the characters learned as the story went along. Still from book 3 to this, a pretty good cozy series. That's what I like about the series, something is mentioned or foreshadowed and thus gets brought again, in the later books. Same with the characters moving forward but still going through their own arc as well. All the while trying to solve a mystery in their town. Oh and writing their book in their Bayside Writer's Club of course, can't forget that. And to think, the mystery in this, started off with the discovery of a time capsule. From there, events are thrown all over the place as Olivia and co figure how to solve this one. Oh can I say that Rawlings in this and well throughout, has been a pretty likable, understanding and well just an awesome character? Dude is charming and you can see why Olivia falls for him. Near the end, I couldn't stop smiling. It was just too cute and I liked that we got a happy moment, what with throughout this one, it got a little sad and you felt bad for one or two characters who had to do with the mystery. Anyway, fantastic series and now a little sad I'm caught up and now have to wait for the next one. Wonder what cozy series I should read next? At least until the next Books by the Bay book comes out.

One of the best I have read in a long time. Very twisted and dark, with spurts of sunshine and love to smooth it out. I really enjoy this series.

Lethal Letters is the sixth book in the A Books By The Bay Mystery series. Another wonderful book form Ellery Adams. For those just learning of this series, I heartedly suggest that you begin with book 1, A Killer Plot, and read the series in order to get the full story on Olivia Limoges. Adams has done a wonderful job of bringing a somewhat aloof woman to a loving and caring woman she is in this book. With each book you learn more of her past and see her open up. It's a busy time at Olivia's restaurant, as everyone is busy getting ready for Michel, her chef. wedding. Next up is a trip to the church to see Pastor Jeffries to make sure that all is ready there, too. When they arrive, they hear the sounds of jackhammers. As they are talking with the pastor, workmen bring in a box that turns out to be a time capsule. When it is opened, Pastor Jeffries gets a shocked look, packs everything back up and calls the head of the historical society, Bellamy Drummond. A day or two later while Olivia is helping Bellamy get the time capsules unveiling at The Secret Garden Party, a fundraiser for the historical society, she notices that item is suspiciously missing from the time capsule. Soon, while walking Haviland along the beach with her niece, she discovers the lifeless body of Ruthie Holcomb. Once Olivia learns of Ruthie's unfortunate past, she wants even more to find out what happened to this young lady. It is now time for Olivia to assemble the book group and get started looking into just what was missing from the time capsule and why and if it had anything to due with the death of Ruthie. Most all the regular characters are back once again. Plus Harris has also returned to Oyster Bay. If you like weddings, then this book is right up you aisle, as you get two wedding. Definitely looking forward to the next book in this excellent series.

Ever since then, I've read everything she's written that I can get my hands on. She's an excellent mystery writer. The writing is clear, concise and descriptive. There are so many other cozy series that I read book 1 and realize that the author has no idea how to actually write, even if the story and plot are decent. Lethal Letters is book 6 in her Books by the Bay series. I think I have written this in a few of my Books by the Bay reviews but I wasn't a huge fan of Olivia at 1st. She seemed so cold and distant but what I think I really enjoy about this series is that Adams has developed the character so much and Olivia has grown a lot as a warm and caring person since book 1. In Lethal Letters, Oyster Bay is preparing for 2 huge events, Michel's wedding (Olivia's chef at her restaurant) and the Secret Garden party held by the head of the historical association. The murder of Ruthie Holcomb prior to both events sets Olivia and the Bayside Book Writers into a search to find the killer before s/he strikes again. What I really like about this series is that there aren't so many characters that it's difficult to remember who is who but not so few that the story is boring. With each book, I look forward to visiting with Haviland, Rawlings, Laurel, Millay and Harris each time I pick up one of her books. Each character brings their own special flavor to the story and helps advance the plotline along. In addition, I love the North Carolina setting and Adams describes it so perfectly that you can see the ocean and smell the salt air around you. It definitely makes you want to plan a trip for down south! I won't get into a lot of what happens in the story - you can read that for yourself, but know that this is an excellent series where each book gets better and better as the series progresses.

Laurel, Harris, Dixie and Grumpy. And our favorite love interest Sawyer Rawlings. Oh and did I mention there is two weddings. What I do want to say, is that this is one of my all time favorite cozy mystery series, ever! Olivia Limoges is just cut from a different cloth. For a very successful woman, she started out very emotionally stunted. Over the last 5 books, Olivia has grown and matured emotionally, and all that growing up led to this book. She taking the plunge! Going into the deep end! Past the point of no return. Well she's getting married- but this is a big deal for her. I love that the book isn't solely about this mushy gushy picture perfect wedding. It gets the attention it deserves, but Olivia isn't a mushy person, and this isn't a Nicholas Sparks books. (Nothing wrong with Nicholas Sparks but I just don't see him writing a very good mystery). Captain Haviland is of course in the thick of it, and what a good poodle he is. As are the Bayside Mystery Writers, with Milay serving an integral role in serving justice for Oyster Bay. Olivia has a very extended family, her fellow townspeople. And she is bound to protect her family at any costs. Lethal Letters has been my favorite book of this series, and I definitely recommend it to any cozy lover, mystery buff, or fan of fun and friendly fiction. This could be a great beach read, or a snuggle by the fire with a cup of cocoa read. Pick it up today.

The prickles are what she uses to guard her heart. She's had heartbreak in many forms, she's risen above most events to be successful in her business life but her personal life has taken time to get where it is now. She's accepted the police chief's proposal, she sees someone in distress that she can help. There are murders in her town again that are affecting everything. Secrets abound and are revealed. The best book of the series. I can definitely recommend this book, this series and absolutely definitely this author.

I think this is the best book of the series so far. It took awhile for me to get a fix on Olivia's age and to like her as a character. It happened with this book. I really enjoyed the story of finding the time capsule and the story behind it. I felt bad for the two people who died....one thing I like about cozies is that usually it's someone nasty who dies but sometimes it's a good guy. And justice was indeed served. Readers looking for a story that bring with it a bit of nostalgia and a good whodunit will love this one. What I liked: This is one of those series' that has kind of been hit or miss for me. Olivia is a very good heroine but she has been a bit hard to get to know. I feel like Adams has done a great job of showing her changes and growth and has softened her somewhat from the onset of the series. In Lethal Letters she is preparing for her upcoming nuptials with Rawlings, as well as, helping Michel with his wedding. She has become a lot easier to relate to and has really come full circle in many ways. I like her much better now and we get to see a lot of her personal life in this one, which was nice. As always, Oyster Bay is such a wonderful setting. The coast of North Carolina has always fascinated me. There are so many small coastal towns that have a certain air about them, an atmosphere that is unmistakable and Adams is great about bringing that through in her writing. The people that live in this area are a different breed and the things they get involved in and the things that happen around them are not always predictable. I love that about this series. The time capsule was a great part of this book. I thought that was an ingenious idea for the theme of the book. I have always thought it would be a lot of fun to be involved in something like this. A way to leave a piece of the past behind for the next generation. Using the time capsule as a the catalyst for murder worked well in this book. The capsule contained a lot more than just memories from the past apparently and it ends up getting someone killed. Secrets, secrets and more secrets. The mystery was so much fun to unravel in this one. Bottom Line: There is a lot more than just a mystery to solve in this one, as everyday life in Oyster Bay is quite busy. With two weddings in the offing and the Historical Society fundraiser. It all added together to give this book a great blend of the past and the present and Adams did a fantastic job of bringing it all to life. Loved the time capsule idea and thought it really gave this book a nice theme.

She knows the time capsule is key and she also knows that something from that capsule disappeared between its original opening and the public unveiling. She just needs to find out what and it should lead her right to the killer. I love this series, the characters have grown so much since the first book, A Killer Plot, when I sit down to read each story it is like I am visiting old friends. Olivia was a little hard to warm up to a first but she has a huge heart and it took her awhile to really let it show, now it is shining. Her relationship with Rawlings has progressed at a perfect pace for both the readers and Olivia and she finally realizes it. Her constant companion is Captain Haviland, a black standard poodle, I just love their dedication to each other. I was also so happy that Harris has returned to Oyster Bay and all the Bayside Book Writers were together again. The story grabbed my attention from page one and the new characters had my emotions flowing. No spoilers here but there will be those characters that you just hate and one that broke my heart. I will leave it at that. Ellery is a spectacular storyteller. We vacationed for week in North Carolina several years ago and I absolutely fell in love with the place. Ellery takes me back there in each of the books. I can feel the sun on my face, the sand between the my toes and smell the ocean. The people there were open and welcoming just like most of the residents of Oyster Bay. The food was delicious and I can almost taste the food Chef Michel prepares at Olivia’s restaurant. This is a series you have to read from the beginning so if this is a new series to you please start with A Killer Plot and then continue on. They would be fantastic all read in a row.

A time capsule is found in a local church's foundation. It's discovery seems to lead to murder, drugs, scandal, and Olivia and the Bayside Book Writers join with the Chief of Police to try and bring law and order back to Oyster Bay, N.C. There are two weddings in this novel and each were perfect in their own unique ways. There are two friendships. One is lost and another one formed. A third is reconnected after a member of the original group returns. These brought me, as a reader and person, pain, happiness, and joy! The entire cast of Oyster Bay regulars have become friends and I delighted reading each sentence. Yes, there were laughs and tears, and even doggy cuddles. Truly what more can you want when the book has the best ending ever? I can hardly wait for the next volume. The only thing that keeps me somewhat patient is the upcoming two novels series by Ms. Adams. One being "A Charmed Pie Shoppe Mystery" and later this year, "A Book Retreat Mystery." I'm not giving you titles because I hope you read from the beginning onwards! Enjoy!

I was blessed to receive this book from the author. This series takes you away to a Beautiful Ocean Village, an elegant lady who is the proprietress of the village, but is down to earth, kind, and an excellent sleuth who will go to any length to save her village, that you the reader want to escape to! Ellery Adams continues to share her gift of mystery writing with this fabulous series!

In this book, Olivia Limoges is engaged to Sawyer Rawlings but has yet to set a date. Olivia and her niece discover a body which is the beginning of a mystery. There is drug being brought ashore, there are murders and there is the arrival of Olivia's birth father in town. The book was a quick easy read. Another wonderful story in this series. I wasn’t expecting to like this one - it starts out with rich white boys drug running but no one can prove it. Then we get a dead body and perfect shelled, mermaids, family secrets and a town time capsule. So much going on, which is my favorite part of this series! Plus two weddings, antiques and the other book writers are doing such great things.

Reading another book in this series is like meeting old friends. I love the characters in these books and how they develop over time. Now I have to be patient until the next book comes out. Great read!

A family trip to the beach leads Olivia and her niece Caitlyn found the body of a young woman on the beach. Ruthie Holcomb led a sad life- taking on work to help her mother and having to meet with her best friend in private because their family didn’t approve. Yet she was strong and artistic…. who could have wanted to harm her. At the same time Michel is at a wedding venue with Olivia when men working on a remodel unearth a time capsule in the wall. When the priest leaves them to grab Bellemy Drummond, head of the Historical Society, Olivia can’t resist one tiny peak. On the grand unveiling, though, there’s a piece from the capsule missing. Why? Who would want to hide something? Add to all this, Laurel in on a heavy case about drugs in Oyster Bay- how they are getting in and who is involved. Things are heating up, and she just might have enough to make a strong story, and give the police the evidence they need. Things are moving quickly for the writers as they move forward with their lives, and try to help a girl who just lost her best friend move on with hers. My thoughts: I loved the differences between how Michel saw his wedding and Olivia. I was very glad to see both relationships moving forward. Harris is back from Texas, stronger, and with a new companion… so good for him! I liked him and Millay but it just was not going to work long term. She has some issues she isn’t addressing yet. As far as Ruthie and Stella go, I felt really bad for them. They were each other’s rock- someone they could dream with. I loved their story and the letters. Also, Olivia has started writing something new and it sounds amazing. I mean, I would read this IRL. I kind of want to, if I am being honest. I think that’s one thing I adore about this series- the extra snippets into that character’s writing. Millay’s story sounds amazing too and I like that we are watching both the joy and the stress of getting a deal. The plot was great, and the book had a really good flow to it. The characters continue to grow. Honestly, what’s not to love here? Five stars!!!! On the adult content scale, there’s language and some violence. Nothing too major. I would give it a four.

Olivia is a business women, and she and her friends have a book club, and they solve mysteries. She is also an owner of a successful restaurant and catering business in Oyster Bay in North Carolina. She is engaged to be married, but has recently found out who her real dad is, and is not ready to share with her fiancé and friends, who her dad is. Olivia is very devoted to her little dog and they take adventures together. Walking on the beach one morning, with her young neice she finds the body of a young girl, who is she? Olivia was also at the church when a time capsule box was found. She took a glance inside, took a photograph, and before they could open anything, the rector, whisks away the box and gets it to the President of the snobby Historical Society. When the items are unveiled, there is an item missing. What is it, and what does it have to do with the dead body on the beach? Why is the rector and President keeping "mum" on the subject? Are there secret letters in the library? If so where? Secrets, mysteries, two weddings, and the party of the year, including more mayhem, as well as another murder in town and an accidental shooting, mix it all up with drug running, and poison and one has a busy little town. A lot to put in a little book. It works.
