Super-producer Xavier "Zaytoven" Dotson copped his name from the German composer and pianist Ludwig van Beethoven because of the many similarities the two musicians share. Both were born in Germany, both mastered the organ and piano at a young age, both boast a genuine interest in music and most notably possessed the same good foresight to align themselves with key people who could help further their careers. Waste of money Do not buy this book if you’re interested in music or music business. This book just repeatedly cycles through shallow motivational platitudes utilizing a keyword for each chapter. For example one chapter is titled “Faith” and another is “Belief”. Both chapters repeat their keywords, in bold typeset, unfortunately they also repeat the same superficial content. The content reads like long-form facebook motivation memes, occasionally peppered with biographical accounts. There is nothing in the book about indie music business or promotion, no mention of practice methods or studio organization, there is no sharing of song craft or music theory. I was expecting a book similar to Tunesmith by Jimmy Webb or Stephen King’s On Writing, to my dismay this is a low-effort book that should be shelved behind the countless other self help procrastinations.

I initially thought the book would be more of a biography of Zaytoven's life and story on becoming one of the biggest producers in the state of hip-hop and trap music, but this is more of a guide on how to become successful in the music business (for producers and non-producers). Although much stuff you read in this book is self-explanatory and already mentioned in others, Zaytoven gives much more insight into his steps to maintain his success, strong work ethic, and network and widen your sourc I initially thought the book would be more of a biography of Zaytoven's life and story on becoming one of the biggest producers in the state of hip-hop and trap music, but this is more of a guide on how to become successful in the music business (for producers and non-producers).
