I found D.S. Venetta's "Show Me the Green!" to be a pleasant surprise. I like the artwork and I really like that it is educational for children and can help create family dialogue regarding gardening, where fruits and vegetables come from, etc. I also appreciate the supplemental material at the back of the book; the glossary, especially, can be quite useful for children and some adults. I won my copy of this book from a giveaway on Goodreads and I appreciate the opportunity to read and review it. I found D.S. Venetta's "Show Me the Green!" to be a pleasant surprise. Lexi and her brother Jason decide to enter a local garden contest because the first place winners will receive two tickets to the fall festival and $100. With the help of their mother, they plant organic vegetables including sweet potatoes, beans, and carrots. Along the way they learn some valuable tips to gardening such as which insects are helpful for their garden and which items grow better next to one another. This book is probably best suited for kids ages 8-11 years old. This book is probably best suited for kids ages 8-11 years old. This book is a great way to show the kids in your life that gardening can be hard work but also a lot of fun. The author did a good job in showing that with a little supervision from an adult, kids are capable of working on a garden. The story included many helpful tips to gardening which are also included in the back of the book along with some recipes for the food you might grow. I recommend this book for those that are looking for an outdoor activity that the whole family can enjoy as most children will be motivated to start a garden after reading this book. I won a free copy of this book in a giveaway but was under no obligation to post a review. All views expressed are my honest opinions.

This book is a triple threat. It is an easy, clear read for young readers ready for a heftier chapter book, it provides a fun, interesting plot to follow with suspense and grit, and it provides enough info that would motivate or inspire kids to get interested in gardening or at the very least asking questions about fresh produce and farm fresh ingredients. A fantastic contribution to children's reading by Venetta. Go get it! This book is a triple threat. I received a free copy of this book from the author through Twitter. (!!!!) This is a book about two kids planting, growing and harvesting their own food. Lexi and Jason are two siblings who want to enter [and win] the First Annual Garden Contest. This is a story that kids will be absorbed in without realizing how much they're learning--about seeds, planting, plant life cycles, bugs, fertilizer... It's a little long for my kids (7 & 5) but definitely a good book to read slowly together. If you're I received a free copy of this book from the author through Twitter. (!!!!) If you're looking for a chapter book to get kids excited about nature, gardening, and science, this one would fit the bill. Kids probably won't even notice they're learning because there's enough sibling drama [read:fighting] and other antics to distract them. :) http://queenbeebooks.blogspot.com/201...

I won Show me the Green in a Goodreads Giveaway. Show me the Green is a wonderful children's book for kids (and Adults too) interested in the wonders of the garden. A well-written fun read!! I could see how this book could be a great enrichment tool for teachers exploring the science fields with their students. I would definitely recommend this book. Got this book from a Good Read give-away. My 6 year old really liked reading it at bedtime. It was fun to learn more about gardening. I didn't care for several spots that gendered jobs - like boys build things. Got this book from a Good Read give-away. My 6 year old really liked reading it at bedtime.
