SIMPOC's only mission is to help, but the returning astronauts are attacked by Julius. Society continues to collapse, and the US government is forced to defend itself and finally seek refuge on an aircraft carrier in the Atlantic. When all seems to have been lost, the reason behind the virus emerges, and mankind is faced with a much greater threat.

4.5 🌟🌟🌟🌟💫 SIMPOC was more enjoyable as a stand alone than with the Virus. Although some of the computer jargon was lost on me, it was very creative and I was easily engrossed while listening to it. The primary focus on the computers with minimal human interaction was wholesome. I thoroughly enjoyed the audiobook and recommend it. It was easier to follow than reading the book! (It provided an easy-to-follow Julian date line as well!) The second book lost the edge of the POV from SIMPOC. It was more 4.5 🌟🌟🌟🌟💫 SIMPOC was more enjoyable as a stand alone than with the Virus. (It provided an easy-to-follow Julian date line as well!) The second book lost the edge of the POV from SIMPOC. It was more focused on the human characters, yet they lacked depth and emotion. Well, they grieved, which I give KUDOs, but there is no anger nor confusion, nor a direction to put down roots and come up with a game plan. Most importantly, it lacks urgency to create a new home, a plan to start over, or any other kind of permanent stability. As most of the main characters are not Joe Schmoe from timbuktu, but seasoned and supposedly experienced, eduacated leaders in various fields, it loses credibility as they interact with one another with little to no conviction and control of the situation. This will remain at 4 stars, as I still feel it is better than Virus. I will listen to Virus again and see if this provides a deeper insight and understanding. Honestly, it is doubtful, as Virus involves more POVs from the humans, and they seem to be less interesting and in control than SIMPOC, who is the newest and youngest member of the group.
