First sentence: This is Chilly. How are you feeling, Chilly? AAAGH! SCARED! Chilly is scared of lots of things. Can he make a new friend or two as well? My thoughts: I liked this one. I never really thought about a snowflake having a personality, but, it works. The illustrations are simple but still expressive. I liked it when the snowflake shrugged for example. "And sometimes he's scared just because." The word balloon reads: "I don't know why." This sums up so much of my own experiences as a kid. I definitely would be interested in reading the other three books in the series.

I can see how a lot of younger children can relate to Chilly and what makes him feel scared. The book is easy to understand but sends a strong message that if you try things that scare you, you might find you like them! 5. Possible in-class uses: I can see this book being used to help anxious children transition into trying new activities. The teacher can read this book to those children or send a copy home so that parents can read it with their child. This book can also be used to introduce children to the genre of graphic picture books and novels. The book has very few words so it will be easy for beginning readers to follow along with.

A lesson in overcoming your fears brought to you by a snowflake that is scared of most things. I like the way fear is treated here, especially when the book lists some of the things the snowflake is scared of. Some reasons are provided, but also included is the fact that sometimes fear can be unexplained too. I also enjoyed the problem (snowflake wants to swing, but is scared of strangers also using the swings) and the solution (demonstrating how to overcome one's fears with a positive result wh A lesson in overcoming your fears brought to you by a snowflake that is scared of most things. Overall, a highly recommended read for Toddlers and PreK.

I'm not sure if Chilly the snowflake overcomes their being scared of everything, or just winds up enjoying the swing. I'm optimistic that playing on the swing with Tizzy Tornado and Grumpy Cloud helps build up Chilly's courage. Poor Chilly has some anxiety issues. Art is cute and accessible to children though. Simply words and sound effects that can make an interactive reading experience when a parent or someone else reads to a child. Chilly the snowflake is scared of everything, even his own shadow. Can Chilly be brave enough to make some friends? Anxiety and worrying are approached here in a very lighthearted and simple way, but the door is then wide open for little readers to talk to adults about whether or not they sometimes identify with Chilly. A simple board book graphic novel that is not a whole lot of story on its own, but I can see being very useful when trying to get little kids to talk.

Fun beginner graphic novel board book series that deals with emotions and being a good friend also. I think this one is my favorite with how it shows bravery and courage to try new things. A great way to start teaching words by reading picture panels, narration, word bubbles, and sound effects. Loved the cameo from Tizzy & Grumpy in this one.

I'm scared, I'm scared, I'm scared I'm scared, so scared I'm scared, I'm scared, I'm scared As the years roll away And the price that I paid And the straws slips away This would have been my book as a child, as I was quite anxious. The illustrations are simple and silly, and the text uses gentle humor to discuss the emotion of fear. A snowflake is afraid to play on the swings when he sees a cloud and a tornado on the swings. He overcomes his fear and has fun. Definitely a toddler target audience.
