I'm going to jump right of the gate here with honesty; I completely bought this book for the cover. After ogling it for a couple of minutes I clicked the BUY button and away I went :) What I liked : Fun little story with enough steamy stuff to have you squirming in your seat by page two. Not kidding here folks, you jump right into the action. Not to mention there's actually *gasp* a story going on. It's not a love a first sight deal either. Vivian and Brock have known each other for a while. Well I'm going to jump right of the gate here with honesty; I completely bought this book for the cover. Well, ten years to be honest. You see Viv was married to Brock's controlling, egotistical adulterer of a brother. He constantly controlled and belittled her. During her cancer treatment Brock was the one to stick by her side; watching movies with her and taking care of her after bouts of chemotherapy. Through sickness and recovery Brock and Viv start to develop feelings for each other. After one steamy kiss Brock high tails it out of Texas because, even though he knows his brother is no good for Viv he feels guilty for falling in love with his wife. Viv is heartbroken at Brock's retreat but a year later, after filing for divorce, tracks him down so she can examine the feelings that she has for Brock. In the year that has passed Brock's feelings haven't changed but he has more than just his brother to overcome. There are things he kept hidden from Viv and those secrets could mean an end to their relationship before it can even begin. What I didn't care for: I just couldn't wrap my mind around how Vivian was subjected to what was essentially mental abuse for ten years and came out the other side with zero knocks to her self esteem. She had no qualms about throwing caution to the wind and showing up at her heart's desire's door literally demanding him to have sex with her. It seemed a bit implausible. Don't get me wrong I don't particularly like simpering weak woman in my books, but it just threw me for a loop. I had to take a step back and remember it is an erotic romance and sometimes you have to cut corners to get from point A to point B. Not to mention Viv's constant bouts of running away. Why do heroines always run at the first sign of trouble? I'm no relationship expert, but come on, if you don't like something sit down and talk about it don't run away. Again, I regress, Point A to Point B. LOL Alright, so, let me just say, HOT cover, HOT sexin, with a pretty good story to boot. Yes, it has BDSM elements, but there aren't any whips and canes. Brock's more about the "sensual" stuff. If the author turns this into a series I can see some of the other characters dragging their whips in with them, but His Forbidden Submissive shouldn't be too scary for newbies to the genre. Check it out if you're in the mood for a hot read :) *originally posted at http://www.bittenbyparanormalromance....

God save me from wishy-washy heroines. She wants the sexytimes with her BIL but ohmigod, it's so intense she runs away afterwards. Comes back later full of "I'm sorry's" and goes for round 2 and again, so intense that again she runs away sulking afterwards. Comes back again. Rinse. Repeat. Rinse Repeat. The revolving door should have just jammed and kept her and her TSTL antics away from the hero after the first time she ran away. Also, I'm not one to quibble about the little things but her sending her husband divorce papers the same day she slept with her BIL the first time makes her no better than her "cheating" husband because she was in essence "cheating" on him too with her own brother-in-law since the divorce wasn't/hadn't become final. Way to go dumbass.

When Vivian goes through cancer treatment, it's not her husband who stays by her side, but his brother, Brock, so when she finally dumps her cheating husband, she heads for her soon-to-be-ex-brother-in-law to see if what she felt for him was gratitude or something more. While they keep secrets from each other (and over-react when the other one finds out), overall this is a sweet but kinky romance between two people who need someone to love them the way they are. Judging this book by its cover: Hubba hubba. Plot: I liked the plot of this book. Hero secretly in love with the heroine for years? Yes, please. I like the way Viv and Brock came together, with him being her rock while she was fighting cancer when her jerk of a husband and his half brother couldn't be bothered to be there for her. (view spoiler)[Once Viv decided that Brock was going to be her Dom, I think the pattern of her thinking changed too quickly. She immediately (later the same night) began to think of him as 'Sir' instead of Brock. I think the whole Dom/sub relationship took off a bit too quickly. (hide spoiler)] The ending was a too abrupt for me. There was the end where everything was put on the table, and then...boom. The end. I think a few more pages to talk a few things through would've made for a more satisfying read. Characters: I'm not sure what it is, but in the majority of the books I'm reading lately, I just don't like the heroines very much. This one was too wishy-washy for me. She was certain she wanted Brock, but then she was too scared because of the way her soon to be ex-husband had treated her. (view spoiler)[She goes in--guns blazing--and tells Brock that part of their contract to work together includes him fucking her, and then she gets cold feet once they've had sex, and he's made it pretty clear how he feels about her. I just didn't think her thoughts/emotions were consistent. She was supposed to be a smart woman, but she was upset that after she and Brock shared a kiss years ago, he'd disappeared from her life. I can get her being upset for a bit and taking time to get over it, but you were married to his brother! And nothing long term (at that point) had ever been discussed between the two of you. He'd made a mistake and was trying to rectify it. To me, his leaving made much more sense than him staying and begging her to leave his brother for him. Most people don't want to tear apart one family--let alone two. And she was also mad that he'd never shared his lifestyle with her. IMO, since they weren't having sex, he was under to obligation to share his lifestyle with her. It didn't take him long to tell her once they did begin sleeping together. (hide spoiler)] As far as Brock was concerned, I thought he was hot as hell. He knew exactly what he wanted, but because of choices he'd made in the past, he was scared about whether or not he and Viv's relationship would be long-term. I thought his fears were more founded than hers. While I had some issued with, I did like this book overall. I thought the sex was hot, and though Viv got on my nerves, Brock was able to overshadow that enough so I enjoyed their story.

I picked this book up on a recommendation in a reader group. I read it in one sitting and enjoyed it so much that I picked up the second book to read also. Brock and Viv were awesome characters. While I understand her running away from things when they got intense, I kind of wanted to smack her a little bit and tell her to just stay there and talk to Brock. He was very patient with her. And her friend/attorney is someone I would love to see a story about. It takes some talking to from her friend to help her understand that the secret Brock kept from her wasn't meant to hurt her. When she wasn't running away, I loved their connection but will she stay when things come to a head with her ex? Or will she finally face her demons and do what she really wants to do? Another thing I really wanted to see was what happens to the ex. There was no mention of him when he stormed out after they had "words"! Maybe it will be mentioned in future books. Loved the story and I'll be reading the next one soon.

That's what Vivian got the moment she beat cancer. A second chance to live again and she is going to do anything and everything to live it to the fullest. Vivian has known for years that her husband was a cheating controlling jerk, but when he couldn’t be bothered to support her during her fight for life, it was the last straw. It also didn’t help that his brother Brock was there for her every step of the way. She has always had a special place in her heart for him, but can her attraction actually be more? One cancer victory, a steamy kiss and a divorce later and now Vivian is going to find out. Brock must move on. He needs to stop pining over his older brother’s wife. His love life is suffering and so is his job. He isn’t even enjoying one of his favorite past times, being a Dom. This big strong tattooed man is going to go out on his Harley and change things up - until he opens his garage door and there stands Vivian looking better than ever. Now they both have a chance to find love. But they are each bringing into the relationship painful pasts and secrets. They must be strong enough to work past the pain and trust each other to make it work. The question is…are they? His Forbidden Submissive was a good story. I enjoyed seeing Vivian take charge of her life, but her knee jerk reactions were often and cumbersome. Brock also was an enigma. When you look at the cover you see this sexy gorgeous male back. The cover depicts Ms. Evans’ description of Brock very well. I also imagine him being an amazing Dom with a strength that is solid and undeterred. That was not the case. He comes across as too insecure and unsure, but his tenderness to Vivian was still sweet. Another mixed bag for me is the ex-husband. He's like the third corner of this love triangle, but I feel he was not utilized to his fullest. He was this big dark cloud hanging over them, but all he did was sprinkle on them. But in the same breath, I’m glad he did take a back seat. It showed how unimportant he was to their future. This novel had more heart and emotions than it did BDSM. My problem is that after reading the blurb, I went into the book expecting more grrrr and less awww. If I mentally take out the strong undercurrent of BDSM in my mind, the story improves for me. Ms. Evans had a tough job in my opinion. How do you write a Dom that has an emotional connection with a woman that's forbidden? In that regards, she does a very nice job. Brock is more than likely representing a “real life” Dom and not the countless alphas that are in the literary world. I personally think Brock is written more realistically with emotions and insecurities. Well done Ms. Evans. His Forbidden Submissive is a pleasant read that has elements of BDSM. Brock and Vivian are a relatively intense couple who have a bumpy ride to happiness. Their insecurities are real and so are most of their reactions to them. This is a satisfying story, but the plot is missing a teeny tiny something to push it over the top for me. I would recommend this book to someone that is looking for a book about second chances and the emotions of doing what's right for your heart. Expect elements of BDSM, but nothing hard-core. His Forbidden Submissive is about the happy ending at the end of a long journey. I found myself cheering for this couple. I hope you will, too!

In His Forbidden Submissive Brock has been the rock Vivian needed to get through her cancer treatments when her husband didn't have time. From that low point they're now hoping to meet each other on a more level playing field and let their real feelings come through while avoiding the pitfalls of keeping secrets. Vivian's been through the wringer. She's survived a cancer that was supposed to kill her and has an adulterous husband who only cares about her designing talents. She's finally had enough and made a break to change her life and finally start living it the way she wants to. I applaud her finally getting a backbone and could've cheered for "I am woman hear me roar" moment. The only thing I didn't like about her was her tendency to jump to conclusions and assume Brock was like her despicable ex-husband. Luckily she has a strong-willed friend, and extremely appealing secondary character, to quickly set her straight so that these silly misunderstandings don't go on too long. Brock is my ideal hero. He's got tats and piercings and wears his leather beautifully. He's also a Dom in the BDSM scene which he's kept a secret from Vivian who has an intense fear of being controlled courtesy of her ex-husband. Brock is exactly the man you want guiding you through this new world. He's caring and explains everything every step of the way. His Dom side is quite exciting and barring a few hiccups Vivian comes to fully embrace what he offers. There are many intensely erotic sexual interludes between them that involve just the right amount of intensity to satisfy fans of true BDSM while not scaring off readers unaccustomed to the BDSM lifestyle. There are a few secondary characters that left a lasting impression with me and have me hoping we'll see more of. There's quite a bit of sadness these characters are trying to hide and that have me wishing for them to find happiness. I've also never been a big fan of BDSM stories but I give credit to Ms. Evans for giving a good explanation for why people are drawn to the lifestyle as well as showing it in an enticing and tasteful way that had my heart pounding at times. After the final page was turned I found this story to be immensely satisfying courtesy of two very appealing main characters who make a great couple. I hope Ms. Evans continues with this series as I'm intrigued to revisit some of the worthy secondary characters and highly recommend it.

The story is a journey, survival, choices, trust, dominance, submission, and freedom. A marriage is ending, because of repeated adultery, which will also end a business partnership, and what starts out as a business partnership will become a foray into passion, lust, and submission. Vivian Michaels has survived cancer, chemo, and is in remission; now she is getting rid of her cheating husband, Eugene, and moving on with her life. The only one really there for her during her life and death struggle, was her husband’s half-brother, Brock, and her friend Anne. Brock Michaels is keeping secrets of his lifestyle, his businesses, and one woman haunts him, but she is the one he cannot have, his half-brother’s wife. Brock helped Vivian during the lowest and scariest time in her life, cancer, and chemo, but when she was pronounced cancer free, he walked away. One year later, he still wants her. The plot has two people that bonded and yes, started falling in love during her life and death struggle with cancer and chemo. Forbidden love, because of Eugene, but that is changing. Vivian has filed for divorce, and she wants one night of sex with Brock, and a business adventure together. “Her plan. Her arrival. Her proposition. His acceptance. The table. The bedroom. The multiple orgasms.” What will happen when Brock shows her he must be in control during sex? Vivian has escaped a controlling husband, how can she agree to submission to another man? What will happen when Brock shares his world with her and his businesses, Ravenous and Restrained Fantasies? “Honesty is complicated. People don’t tell each other everything that’s ever happened to them.” Will Brock’s secrets destroy them or can he show Vivian the other side of him and the freedom of BDSM? “When you’re practicing this lifestyle, thinking can often be your enemy.”

I loved reading His Forbidden Submissive by Brandi Evans. This story was more than just about BDSM, it had heart and the hero, Brock, really captured mine from the beginning which had him involved in a "scene" that was hot!!! Brock and Viv had great chemistry together and you can sense the bond they share after overcoming the worse thing ever. I loved that even though Brock was a sexy, strong Dom, he still showed great tenderness towards Viv throughout the story and always concerned about her feelings. There were some secrets he still had to divulge to her but scared that he would lose her. You could not help but feel for what Brock was going thru. This couple captured my heart and I could not wait for them to finally get their happy ending.

When I read the premise of the story I thought it was going to be so much more but instead we had a dom who couldn't be honest and a sub who ran at every opportunity. And I do mean EVERY opportunity. ZZZzzzzz. The only interesting people in the book were the friend who kept counseling her to return to her dom and her doctor who was in love with a former patients wife. 2.5 stars. This is the first in a series set in Restrained Fantasies, the kind of, well, fantasy BDSM club common to this genre. Here, we follow the owner, Brock, and his sister-in-law, Vivian, as they attempt to negotiate a relationship complicated by their familial status and her ignorance of the lifestyle. I have very mixed feelings about this book, which makes it hard to rate. Below is what worked and didn't work for me. I have very mixed feelings about this book, which makes it hard to rate. Below is what worked and didn't work for me. What Worked: 1) The BDSM play was SSC -- as it should be in what is supposed to be a well-respected kink club. 2) Brock genuinely cared for Vivian. I also appreciated that he was a dominant only in the bedroom; everywhere else he wanted an equal partner and respected her. Full confession: TPE is not my kink. 3) Vivian was a strong and successful career-woman, who stands up for herself when need be. 4) The kink scenes -- while relatively tame for this genre -- were well-described. 5) The conflicts were organic to the characters and real stumbling blocks: The fact that Vivian is married (though about to be divorced) to Brock's brother; the secrets that Brock keeps. Later, this series will employ a lot of OTT crime drama plot elements to drive the couples apart; I prefer the conflicts to be more realistic. 6) The prose was grammatical, with few editing errors. What Didn't Work: 1) For a newbie sub, Vivian goes from 0 to 60 0n the sex-0-meter in the space of a single evening. 2) Upon learning yet another of Brock's secrets, she reacts by running away -- not once, but twice. This repetitive behavior -- on both their parts -- was frustrating. 3) The ending is abrupt and several lines of action remain unresolved: Why is Anne (view spoiler)[unhappy? What happens between Stephen and his sub? What will Eugene do to them? What is the deal with Steel (hide spoiler)] ? I wish I could say that some of these questions are answered in the successive books, but they aren't. The ultimate problem with this book is that the most interesting aspects happen "off the page" before the book even begins: Brock's support during her chemo treatments; the couple's first kiss; Brock and Eugene's fraught relationship (which is never explained); Vivian and Eugene's fraught relationship (why she stayed with him for a decade is also never explained); etc. The way the mc falls in love is unusual -- drawn together by her cancer -- and those emotions (the growing realization that they're beginning to care for each other when any future they could have might be snatched away) would have been much more compelling to read about than anything that happens here. 3 stars. You won't be sorry you read this since it is pleasant enough, but the storyline represents a real missed opportunity on the part of the writer.

The love affair of Brock and Vivian starts in an unusual way, but quickly becomes very passionate and goes on to some consensual bondage and other play as Brock is a Dom, and Vivian learns she is submissive to him. Both main characters are warm, intelligent and likable, and there is a lot of angst as they gradually admit to things they were hiding that stood in the way of the growing relationship. The book is well written, fast paced, and keeps you interested from beginning to end

Loved the cover but once stared reading a tad disappointed in the lack of consistency and reality. How can an abused woman immediately be assertive and know what she wants as well as flip flop between being both passive aggressive and assertive? That being said I still enjoyed reading the journey for the characters and of course lots of sex with BDSM theme. Try this book if you just want a book about sex and more sex but not much plot and fully developed characters.

What is so well done about this book is that Ms Evans compels me through her words and plot-twists to care a great deal abut the 2 main characters, Brock and Vivian. The characters are both relatable and interesting which kept me enthralled until the very last page. Vivian is very courageous but at the same time makes some foolish decisions. Brock is there for Vivian when she needs someone but at the same time doesn't open up totally about himself to her. Those tats, they get my motor running..vroom vroom! His Forbidden Submissive walks the line between cravings and morals with quite good finesse. Vivian has just decided to walk away from her rat of a husband after years of infidelity and complete disregard for her during her most fragile time of need. With her Cancer in remission Vivian only has one thing on her mind, exploring the feelings for the man who stood by her side throughout her fight, Brock, her husband’s half brother. Not knowing if her feelings are real or hero worship she sets out to seduce him without him knowing how much of her heart is already engaged. It always amazes me how much a man and a woman can misread signals. It’s obvious from the beginning how much Brock cares for her and yet Vivian simply can’t see it. She entices him with a business deal before she starts taking her clothes off. I found the rouse to be slightly unsettling but, ok, I went with it. I even chuckled because while Vivian wanted to get Brock in the sack and fast she isn’t prepared for his confession that he is a Dominant and he’s looking for a submissive. She can’t separate submissive with controlling and finds the prospect of such a venture scary. I enjoyed Brock’s easy but eager way of breaking her into his D/s lifestyle. Instead of scaring her with overloading her all at once, Brock shows her with actions and orgasms. Lots of orgasms. Brock knows showing her everything at once would scare her away so he leaves out the parts about him being co-owner in a BDSM club/restaurant. I understood Vivians reluctance because of her relationship with his brother but I thought her over the top reactions were childish. She claims to trust Brock and yet every time that trust is tested she runs. It got tiresome. Vivian doesn’t even trust her own body. So in theory she doesn’t trust herself either. Even knowing how much Brock cares, and that he wouldn’t hurt her, she still balks at his lifestyle and leaves him again and again. While I found Vivian to be lacking I really liked Brock. Even after all his secrets are laid bare he still stood as solid for her as he always had. Even when Viv is confronted by her soon to be ex-husband Brock stands his ground with her. I wished there would have been a slightly bigger scene in that regard since the her ex really had a face pounding coming to him. I was bummed when that didn’t happen. I also liked the reaffirmation that a person should listen to their own body and not think so much. The freedom in allowing yourself to let go and just feel. I give His Forbidden Submissive by Brandi Evans 3.50 stars!

There were things about this book that I loved, and other things that made me a little uncomfortable. Her marriage. I think she should have waited until the divorce was finalized before she was seeking Brock out. That just didn't set well with me, that she had him served with divorce papers the same day she was sleeping with Brock. Actually she was probably sleeping with him when he got the papers since he was trying to call her immediately afterward. I realize her husband was a douche but what made her any better than him? Because she served him with divorce papers first? She was still married to him. That just rubbed me the wrong way. Another thing I didn't care for was how she seemed more like an object when they were in the club. She said something about it, and he asked her if he had just treated her like a thing. But the way he talked to her sometimes I did get that impression. I get that it's expected when you read a book with Doms and subs. But I think there is a balance of controlling and objectifying with loving and sensitivity that is probably really difficult to write in a book dealing with Doms and subs. I think she added the sensitivity, he would caress her cheek and be gentle with her sometimes but not allowing her to say his name kind of bothered me. I thought he would want to hear it after wishing for her for so long. Not a huge deal, I'm just trying to pinpoint exactly what was off-putting for me. One of the things I loved about this book, was the way Brock loved her. You really got a glimpse of it when the book was from his point of view. I loved how much she affected him. Like after she left and then came back when he was with his brother. When he first saw her he couldn't help but give her a huge smile. It was sweet. I think it would have been cool if the Preface started at her remission party, where he first kissed her. I would have liked to read their emotions during and after that fist kiss. Then pick the story up with the original Preface, with him and his sub and him longing for Vivian. Oh well. I still like how it was written, I just found myself wishing I could have been there with them for that first kiss. I also liked her Oncologist. I wouldn't mind reading about him. He was only in the story for a very short time, but I was really attracted to his character. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ FAVORITE QUOTES "[...] I can count on one finger all the times you've showed up at my house unannounced on a Friday morning- and that includes today." ~Brock

In fact, he says that one of the reasons why he enjoys being Dominant is the power it gives him to dictate Viv’s sexual response. Um … yeah. He needs to teach a class. I’m just saying. What makes this book enjoyable is that it explains the BDSMS lifestyle pretty effectively. If you are new to that kink, then you will leave this book having a better appreciation of what is entailed and what it means. You might even be surprised. When Brock comforts and tends to Viv after a particularly robust session of nooky, he’s sweet and tender, and he’s also providing a service necessary in BDSM. This is a fun, quick, HOT read about two characters we enjoy getting to know. Favorite Quote:She swallowed hard. She’d always wanted a saucier sex life, a hint of danger, but she’d squelched the desires when they had arisen, fantasies of completely giving herself to a lover. Handing over control didn’t come easy to her. Any control, sexual or not. No thanks, in large part, to her bastard of a husband. * * * * * Pain play? Bondage and discipline? Spanking? Dominance and submission? She didn’t really have a clue what all those things entailed but most of them frightened her. She’d spent most of her adult life trying not to let her husband control her, but now she was willingly walking into a BDSM club with a man who made no qualms about calling himself a Dominant.
