With lines like, "Anton comes from Europe! He even speaks with a French accent!" often made me think I was reading a Scooby Doo mystery. The San Francisco location is a big red herring, mostly because 99.9% of the action takes place within a hotel that could be anywhere, but also because the few atmospheric touches don't ring true. At one point MJ is happy it's raining because the increase in humidity helps her job. Hell I really enjoyed the previous entry, but this one felt overlong and sloppy. Gilley's outrageous outfit for a night on the town would only be appropriate for the gay pride parade or Bay to Breakers, but positively weird on any other day. I also kept wondering how no one could notice solid gold mirror frames simply by how much they probably weighed; it's unlikely one person could be gallivanting around the hotel with those completely unnoticed. Hopefully the next one will be back up to par.

3.5 stars I enjoyed this one more than the previous two. Maybe because I thought M.J. and Heath had a more perfect fit ((view spoiler)[and I was happy to know that M.J. would end up with Heath (hide spoiler)] ) and the thought of haunting hotel was, kinda enjoyable. The third in the series and I am still really enjoying them. In this episode (cue organ music) M.J. and Gilley are off to San Francisco to participate on a Bravo T.V. Show on psychics. Another part of a series of murder mysteries with a series title of Ghost Hunter, this novel follows our heroine, MJ Holliday (a distant relation to Doc), her best friend, Gilley Gillespie and MJ's boyfriend,`Dr. Steven Sable. The story opens with Gilley telling MJ that he's gotten them a gig out in Hollywood to film a new television program that is sort of a cross between Antiques Roadshow and Ghosthunters. As ghost hunting and exorcisms are MJ's profession - Gilley is the manager/tech guy of the duo - she reluctantly agrees, though she hasn't heard of any of the other psychics before. They arrive in California in time to have a murder take place just a few seconds before their arrival at their hotel - a young woman apparently committed suicide. MJ can see her spirit lingering and manages to talk to Detective McDonald, and convinces him to let her under the police lines so she can talk the ghost into crossing over. McDonald is suitably impressed, especially when MJ tells him this is a murder, not a suicide, and the proof starts piling up that she's right. It turns out the hotel Gopher (the show's producer) has booked them in to is very much a haunted hotel, with at least seven ghosts. After the first day of the Antiques Roadshow part of the tv series, MJ has managed to get two of the other psychics fired as frauds and also hooked up with Heath Whitefeather, a few years younger than she is, and a genuine psychic and, if not obvious from his name, part Native American. Gopher agrees to revamp the show, and, after the second day, when a cursed dagger suddenly makes an appearance on the set, and someone gets possessed, things go from bad to worse. Gopher's crew quits, his lover gets killed in the bathroom, and there's a definite malevolent presence hanging around the hotel. Can MJ, Gilley and Heath figure out what's going on? Will they wind up murdered by the dagger before they figure out who's behind bringing it here? And are those mirrors really haunted? This was an enjoyable read but I'm not sure if I like MJ enough to pick up more of the series. Written by a psychic, that was the draw for me to read the book in the first place. I guess I was a little surprised by how easily Heath and MJ were able to convince many of the ghosts to cross over (except for the one associated with the dagger). There is another psychic series by Ms. Laurie and I may try it and find out if I like those characters any better.

I am so thrilled that the relationship between Steven and MJ is finally no longer annoying, yay! This book was great! The ghost hunting was thoroughly enjoyable and was also the primary focus throughout the story (whoop whoop). It was creepy, funny, and a bit scary at times, such a good read!

This was an interesting change from the 1st book, and definitely laid the groundwork for her new TV show that I already knew was going to happen from reading the bibliography of the next few books as I put them into my queue for future reading. Good use of suspense too! I didn't get any predictions for the"whodunit" either. Hollywood had called with the idea of a sort of haunted Antiques Roadshow to be broadcast on their favorite cable network, Bravo. Gilley is totally excited about the idea, MJ says no way, and their business partner and former client, Dr. Steven Sable was already packed. After much deliberation and discussion, the three agree to go to San Francisco where the producer named Gopher would set up several mediums and several objects such as hairbrushes and other small personal items. Then the mediums would determine if these everyday items could hold such power and whether that power was limited to good or positive energy. When the trio lands in San Francisco in their third book, MJ discovers they will stay at THE most haunted hotel in America, The Duke Hotel. However, their cab can’t even deliver them to the door because there is a crime scene taped off and blocking the entrance along with a crowd of people, police, EMTs, and construction workers working on the hotel renovation. A woman’s body lies in the center of all that, and MJ has her attention. Police allow her to near the body to question her about how she happened to end up on the pavement, and among other information, MJ learns the woman’s name and room number before she crosses her over. She accompanies the detective to her room where she spells out what happened. While this scene seems totally unrelated to the haunted objects, it definitely ties in and helps to explain things later in the book. From one event to another, they are all tied together. The ghosts of the hotel show up for the Bravo shoot of MJ and three other psychics trying to determine if objects are haunted. They make mischief that scare two of the psychics and reveal them to be fakes. That left MJ and Heath Whitefeather, a young man who had been raised on the reservation. With so little to do there, he walked the land and spoke to the spirits he found. MJ and Heath realized that each other was the real deal and the beginnings of a friendship formed. The shoot of haunted objects fell apart when the hotel ghosts disrupted the entire thing. However, the director, Gopher, sees a new opportunity much more intriguing that objects – these are dead people he can investigate via MJ and Heath. Since they are staying at the hotel, it becomes a necessity to deal with them. A woman is killed in the rest room after MJ notices another woman in the mirror walk into the ladies room and not exit. MJ goes into the rest room where there is another huge mirror and a now dead body. There are four of these huge mirrors framed in gold that the owner of the hotel just bought at an auction in London, where the young woman who had lain in front of the hotel had been living. Many more details are revealed as MJ and Heath investigate with Steven and Gilley in his custom made sweatshirt full of magnets to keep the ghosts away from him, since he has revealed he is afraid of ghosts! They find benign ghosts and then they find the violent ones. It is MJ who finally begins to piece the many clues together to determine just what happened to the entire hotel. There are many voices in the book and differing accents, too, that Eileen Stevens as narrator handles very well. She makes each person sound distinctly different from the others. Her overall narrating is done very well also; it is a pleasure to listen to. Nothing distracts from the story to bring the reader out of the context of the book. There are surprises, and I found my jaw dropping in places. In others, I routed for the characters and urged them on in the right direction. It was almost as if I were a bystander in the story itself. To bring me into the story that far truly shows a talented author. Please excuse me while I quick go grab book 4 in this terrific series, GHOULS GONE WILD.

An antique dagger has an evil life of its own, 4 antique mirrors hold the soul of a woman dead by her own hand in the 16th century...death by dagger..... And the body count and the ghost count rises.... Another light, easy, and fascinating read, that held my attention and kept me up all night.... And I'm getting rather tired of her whiny & wishy-washy-swishy partner. So, you may wonder why I gave this only 3 stars? Because of "who done it"...... ************************************************************POSSIBLE SPOILER************************************************************ I'm not saying who....but it was no one who was actively present in the plot. It really peeves me, when the bad guys come out of NOWHERE........ Not even mentioned until the very end of the book, like: Hello, Who are these people? Where did they come from? Why are we only knowing who they are at the very end of the book? The end just didn't really tie up very well.........and I think the author must not have thought this through very well.

With her boyfriend, Steven, in tow, they fly off to San Francisco to the most haunted hotel in the city where they immediately get involved in a suicide. Or was it murder? The first taping is a disaster. Two of the psychics are obviously fakes, but the other, Heath Whitefeather, is a real medium (and a real rival for M. J.'s affections.) Then someone switches one of the objects for a really evil antique that could be a portal between this world and demons. Using their psychic abilities and Gil's computer researching skills, M. J. and Heath set to work to solve the mystery, close the portal, and send all the hotel's spectral guests to their peaceful resting places. I love the humor and mystery that balances the really scary demons and murderers in this book. M. J. is a great character and Heath could be a fine new partner.

I love the fun of Laurie's paranormal novels. They are light, fluffy, and pure entertainment. However, the character of M.J. is getting a little mean and rhymes-with-itchy. It's getting hard to care whether good or bad things happen to her. Also, it's getting increasingly apparent that Laurie really has made no discernible distinction between the character in the Ghost Hunter Mysteries and Abby Cooper of the Psychic Eye series. That said, I enjoy the fun of them. I love the fun of Laurie's paranormal novels. They are light, fluffy, and pure entertainment. I love the fact that it held my interest until the very end. I love the little twists and turns in the book, along the way. I would recommend to anyone who likes to read light supernatural books. I've said it before in the review for the previous book in this series, Demon's Are a Ghoul's Best Friend (#2), and I'll say it again: Victoria Laurie knows how to write a story that moves!!! The settings in each of the books so far have been really intriguing and help paint an incredible picture in my mind as I'm reading. For the first two books the locations were more open whereas with this book its mainly taking place in a hotel. Honestly, it was awesome seeing just how much mayhem could occur in a hotel!! The first three books in this series have been absolutely wonderful and so much fun to read! There's mystery, spirits, characters brilliantly written with humor and smarts, and a plot that moves at a great pace to tell an incredible story! Thank you once again for the great read, Victoria Laurie!!

3.5 stars This third book in the series was a fun one! The gang are off to a haunted hotel to film a TV show with some other mediums. Turns out there are quite a few spooks at the hotel and after a murder and some scary sightings, it is up to M.J and new medium friend Heath to solve the mystery. The introduction of Heath to work with M.J was great. Liked seeing the way they bounce off each other. Definite sparks there (current bf Dr Delicious should be worried!!!). Looking forward to continuing the 3.5 stars This third book in the series was a fun one! The gang are off to a haunted hotel to film a TV show with some other mediums. This was a wild ride. The ending was a flurry of, "Ooh, he did it?! Nope! Oh dang, he did it?! Nope! So he--" A good paranormal whodunit. I really enjoy this series, and my rating would be higher...if not for Gilley. He annoys me 95% of the time and really isn't a very good friend. I wouldn't forgive half the stuff he pulls. I'm intrigued to see where the stories will go after the events of this book...has the potential to be spooky fun. This was a wild ride. The ending was a flurry of, "Ooh, he did it?! Nope! I'm not sure if I mentioned it in the previous book of this series I read but I do love that Victoria Laurie mentions what inspired her or gave her the idea for the story. This tale takes place in the Hunted Duke Hotel where M.J. (somewhat unwillingly) participates in haunted possessions show and solves a mystery or 2 while she's at it. https://multiscreenmotivision.wordpre... Still liking the books after book 3. I mean she doesnt pick main characters as the culprits which I think is a bit of a cop out. Like theres no way I'd be able to figure out who the person responsible was because it's never anyone you knew existed in the first place. It's like all the actual characters will. ALWAYS be red herrings. It isnt necessarily a bad thing because you dont try to figure it our since you know it won't be any character that's been introduced Still liking the books after book 3. Almost didn't finish this one. She slipped into demonic stuff which is absolutely not something I enjoy. There also seemed to be lots of plot holes, though there was less of the love interest, which was good - and at least they seemed to be actually in a relationship rather than him pressuring her ask the time I'll read more of the Abby Cooper books if she writes them, but I doubt I'll read more of these. Very disappointing. Almost didn't finish this one. She slipped into demonic stuff which is absolutely not something I enjoy. I have such a weird relationship with this series. I absolutely don't hate it but I also don't love it...but I have to find out what happens. The starts are hard to get into, then the stories gets good. And some of the characters I enjoy 50% of the time and are so annoyed with the other 50%. But I as much as that frustrates me, I deeply respect the writers creating characters that bring out those emotions. If one is interested in a cozy series, I recommend this one.
