Always an interesting grab bag of comics, these Adventure Time Comics anthologies allow a multitude of artists to tackle the Adventure Time characters and worlds in their own diverse styles, to differing degrees of success. Some seem to just rehash common themes of the series, while others focus on more it’s strange or unique aspects, or take minor supporting characters in interesting new directions. Of course, it’s always fun to see the familiar seen through a different style. The ones that focus on the more introspective moods of the show are stronger in general than the ones that go for pure comedy, I feel. Generally, though, if you don’t care for a certain comic, it’s okay, since it’s only a couple of pages until something new pops up.

This is an entertaining and diverse collection of very short stories. The first story, "Forgotten Princess" by Phillip Kennedy Johnson and Antonio Sandoval, is nominated for the Eisner Award. It features a unique layout with a twist ending. The stories vary in style, but all stay true to the fun essence of Adventure Time. I suspect younger readers might find some of the vocabulary a little advanced, but all will enjoy these adventures of old and new friends.
