It was good. Short. Kept me interested the entire time. Suspenseful. I liked it but it just wasn’t enough. I needed more. I know they knew each other in high school but I still don’t think it was long enough for their relationship to develop.

I liked the book. I like all of what Lindsey writes, especially the Men of Mercy books. This was Cord's book and as with the other men he has something he has to prove to himself. There is no word left to use to present Lindsey Cross' works. Each one of her books is an encomium for the soldiers who are ready to die for their country. Each of her stories hides inside a powerful, heartwarming love story. Each one of the characters she create is a perfect mixture of bravery, caress and kindness. But the key for Men Of Mercy success is that she linked each one of these characters with one another through their own personal stories. I like 'Cord's Chance' for many reasons. Firstly, because this time is a story about a complitely broken man, body and mind. A man who is fighting his demons whereas, at the same time, fights with everything he has to recover fast and go back to serve his country. Secondly, while the story it's shorter than the others, is moving forward without missing important details on each scene and it's very to the point. Also, I love that this time there is an unsolved mystery inside the plot. For last, I kept the action packed scenes I always love reading because they always feel real and very very palpable to me. The author's writing keeps the highest of levels just as always does. While there is a romance going on in the story, the author balance's the romantic atmosphere with the turbulence the Cord deals with, putting the reader's attention to see the personal aspect on both sides, Cord's and Sam's, than just looking a broken man and a woman in need. I don't know how the author manage to do it each time but after reaching the end, I found my self wanting to know more about the heroes and what else might happen to their lives. Who knows! Maybe there would be a continue of their story soon... Until next time, enjoy your free time reading great books with the most unforgettable stories. I barely remember Cord from earlier books (he's Evie's cousin). I felt like I had read this book before. We are introduced to Clint Fury who I'm guessing is part of the Fury series. This was a great story about healing and second chances, with some suspense added in. Cord and Samantha were good friends in high school, but Samantha always had a crush on him. Cord didn't think he was good enough for Samantha, so he kept her friend zoned and kept his feelings hidden. There second chance happens several years later when after being injured, Cord is assigned to protect Samantha from a stalker. I absolutely loved this book. Little does he know that Sam is someone once important to him or that the ranch she runs is set up for rehabilitation of military veterans. Sam is unsure who the bad guy is – is it an abusive ex or a neighbor or an employee or??? Cord is still dealing with a bit of PTSD and compartmentalizing but eager to get back on active duty. Sam and Cord are drawn to one another in spite of the threat that lurks nearby and quickly act on this attraction. Whether or not they overcome the threat and find a future together is what this story is about. I enjoyed the story but would have liked a bit more of the couple’s back story and perhaps an epilogue that shows how the couple is doing in the future. I felt it was a bit rushed but thoroughly enjoyed the story anyway. NOTE: I learned something after googling whether or not amputees are sent back to the battlefield. I found that amputees that are able to meet the physical requirements are able to return to active duty if they would like to. Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review. 3-4 Stars

This novella is fast paced, second chance insta-love, with alpha men, head strong women, and really mean bad guys. Cross never fails to write good reads and I could not put this down once I got started!

First time reading Lindsay's work. The book started good. It's a good story, but it lacks depth. A lot of it. I didn't feel the angst or the romance and pretty much I knew who the bad guy(s) were a few chapters before the big reveal. The characters are ok and I did finish it, so it wasn't that bad but it wasn't amazing Just how I felt. You give it a try First time reading Lindsay's work. The book started good. Chance is Destiny! Cord's Chance is a second chance romance that hits all the right notes. There is a hint of nostalgia, a dash of heartbreak, a heaping helping of suspense, and chemistry that tantalizes and sets the pages on fire. Sam and Cord are both strong, loyal, determined characters. They each have their own vulnerabilities and insecurities that make them realistic and memorable. This story is sexy and fast paced. The heat and the love between these characters just can't be denied. I hope Chance is Destiny! Cord's Chance is a second chance romance that hits all the right notes. This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. I was kindly provided this book as an ARC; in exchange for my honest review. This book is in my opinion loosely part of the Men of Mercy series and sort-of ties into the new Fury Security series. I’m going to sound repetitive here; by stating, that I have really loved all of Miss Lindsay‘s previous work. I’ll be completely honest by stating I was completely lost & confused by this book. I thought this was book 2 of the Fury Security series. Gah. This frustrated me a tiny bit as I like to believe I was kindly provided this book as an ARC; in exchange for my honest review. Gah. This frustrated me a tiny bit as I like to believe my former teachers & professors when they’d tell me how smart I was. I’ll blame it on encroaching old age... So we get to this book and again I’m lost as to whom the characters are. At first I seriously thought the author had made a mistake on the one guys name because in book 1 of Fury Security the man with the Fury surname that I remembered was Colt. No Colt in book 2; it’s Clint Fury. Lo and behold after going back and re-reading book 1 I realized that Colt & Clint are brothers. Again, gah. So with the confusion solved, I did start to read the story; but, i had trouble placing some of the characters. The central characters are Cord Carter a Navy SEAL sniper who suffered the loss of his right leg below the knee after watching the ambush of the team he was protecting. The female interest is Sam (Samantha) Bishop. Cord & Sam knew & crushed on each other in high school. He a jock from the wrong side of the tracks & from what I could gather an abusive father. She his super smart tutor. They never quite “got together” before he enlisted & disappeared. Sam becomes a counselor, seemingly specializing & caring for medically discharged vets, most of whom suffer with PTSD. Sam’s paternal grandfather (whom she’s never met) bequeathed his Texas ranch to her at his death. This works to her advantage after a nasty break-up with her spoiled rich boy boyfriend. Sam starts a horse therapy program at the ranch; when she begins suffering harassment. Fearful, she contacts a friend for help knowing said friend has links to Fury Security. Cord is still in rehab hospital & fears he’s never going to be recovered enough to rejoin his SEAL team. I will state author did good job of writing about the pain, suffering, not to mention the physical, emotional, mental, financial difficulties & spiritual life/well-being of an amputee. Sooo many sugar coat or make it seem as if the person is almost whole, specifically if they are one of the magical lucky few that can be fitted to & afford a prosthetic.. I have knowledge of this both as an RN & an amputee. Cord is sent to ranch to both help & as a test to see if he’s field ready. This part seems a bit far-fetched as I know the physical requirements for special operators & it’s highly unlikely an amputee can perform at that level (specifically an amputee 9 months post injury). Ahh fiction, if only it could be. The book evolves as expected & didn’t totally surprise me. In typical Lindsay Cross fashion it’s well written, but just wasn’t my favorite of her books. Ms. Lindsay is truly a gifted author that I have previously loved, loved, loved her books. So please give it a shot. So, while I’m truly heartbroken & disappointed about not really enjoying this loose extension of the Men of Mercy/Fury Security series; I would highly recommend all of Ms. Lindsay’s other books. 😘

Now Ms. Cross has written some really good books in this series, and aside from the proofreading and editing errors, I’ve really enjoyed them. Cord's Chance is somewhat of a standalone, but we do get glimpses into the lives of some of the other Men of Mercy characters. For me, Cord's book ends just as it was getting good...before it had the chance to explore the full potential of Cord's experience concerning his injuries, loss of teammates, and his PTSD. For me, Cord's book ends just as it was getting good...before it had the chance to explore the full potential of Cord's experience concerning his injuries, loss of teammates, and his PTSD. I don't know why these books have to move so fast; especially the ones using the second chance romance trope. Just because these characters either dated in high school, were friends in high school, or at least knew of each other beforehand, does not mean we have to be on board with them jumping in the sack together immediately, and professing their love. The suspense is always wrapped up too quickly, then the book ends. It's so frustrating because just as we're getting into the story, hoping to really delve deep into these characters, the story's over. Sometimes we get an epilogue, sometimes not, and what we want to happen with the characters down the line, we'd just have to use our imagination.🤷🏾‍♀️ Don't get me wrong, I don't mind insta-love, just give me more. Before Cord heads out to the ranch to do some work for Fury Security, the story is flowing nicely. We see Cord struggle emotionally because he refuses to talk about that dreaded night. Physically he seems to be in shape, and ready to get back with his team...aside from the painful muscle spasms, of course, that we're told are typical after losing a limb. But according to the doctor, psychologically he may be also repressing his PTSD. I guess that's why he didn't piece together what type of ranch he was sent to do security work for and was furious because he felt like he was set up to get "help." We never really find out if that's the case or not-at least not with Col. Mack, or Mr. Fury because he totally blows his top, never giving anyone a chance to answer. I was disappointed when the author didn't go back and address the accusation. Anyway, we don't get to see Cord work through his PTSD with therapy. Sure, he has some conversations (or is it just one?) with the heroine, Samantha, but nothing breakthrough worthy. The conflict is identified (mostly discussed beforehand), a suspect given, the misunderstanding that causes the brief separation between the hero and heroine happens, culprit is revealed and conflict resolved--practically all in the same breath. I was really hoping for more.

A whole man who deserves a whole love! This is my first book by this author and I definitely want to try more by her, even though I missed some things in the reading. It's a standalone that is also part of a series (Men of Mercy). Kind of a second chance romance between Samantha and Cord. Cord is a warrior, a sniper fighting for his country. He lost his leg, he lost his team, he lost his faith, he lost himself. At the end of his rehab he has another chance of going back, as long as he can do one thing: protect Samantha from a dangerous stalker. Sam is sweet, hardworker and selfless. And she is also someone from Cord's past that he could never forget. So when they meet again after so many years, old feelings resurface and they are so strong Cord and Sam can't ignore, even when danger is so close. It's a good story, and it had a lot of potential! I think it lacked in deepness and I missed more background from their pasts and their feelings. It was a little too fastpaced. But I could totally tell, even being my first book by this author, that she is great and her characters are totally loveable. I will definitely not stop on this book!

Will Sam be able to break through Cord’s tough demeanor to prove her feelings are true? Will Cord destroy the feelings he has for her much less stop the killer wanting Sam dead? I eagerly look forward to any and all of Ms. Lindsay Cross’s military stories including this one even though it is a novella. Yes I tell myself to stay away because there usually isn’t enough story to satisfy me or the characters aren’t developed enough. Well okay the story did seem to end rather abruptly and there could have been more but the characters were developed enough that even if I read this book as a standalone I still would have not gotten lost. Plus there was a few confusion and change in names but it was minor. Cord wasn’t really a bad hero even though most of the time I seriously wanted to hit him over the head so many times. I hated his self loathing and unwillingness for any help. I understand why he felt that way but its okay to ask for help sometimes. Sure his body made up for it but he sure wasn’t winning any points with me. I really just loved Sam she was a great heroine strong, determined, and courageous plus she wasn’t going to put up with any grief from Cord. I almost wished Sam would have ended up with Clint because he seemed better. I still enjoyed the story and do hope that Ms. Cross will write about Clint next.

Sam is a compassionate young woman who uses her work/degree to help former miliatry Vets who are struggling with the use of rescue horses… loved that premise of the story. Care, attention, and compassion are always needed. This is a fast paced novella, a beautiful read of Chance and Samantha’s journey. It’s filled with action and dramatic suspense as Cord sets out to find out who wishes harm to Sam Lindsay gifts you a story of second chances at life, love and work, well... when you can set your attitude and perceptions of others aside, to see the bigger picture of what’s important. There are recurring characters from within this series, this is read as a stand alone book. I believe you will appreciate a better understanding and reading experience delving into the entire MEN OF MERCY series.

The one bright spot in that childhood was a girl named Sam. In order to return to active duty, he has to prove that he is ready. So he is sent to do a temp job for a friend who runs a security firm. The person he is sent to help has a stalker. When he arrives at the ranch in Texas to start the job, he comes face to face with Sam, the girl of his dreams. Now he has the chance to tell her how he feels and maybe finally find some happiness. But will she feel the same? This was my first book by Lindsay Cross. She was recommended by Adriana Locke as this story was supposed to be part of the Landry Kindle World until that program was cancelled earlier this year. When I saw that Cord's Chance was about a soldier who suffered an injury on active duty and lost part of his leg, I had to read it. I am a total junkie for this trope, I buy or put on my list any book like this. I quite enjoyed this story. Cord's injury was portrayed realistically, the side effects of his injury were conveyed so strongly that my leg started to hurt. Sam was a wonderful character, so loving and willing to help anyone. The fact that she was running a ranch for wounded vets didn't feel forced at all. Her background in counseling and animal therapy and Cord coming back into her life when she needed him really felt like the hand of fate. I do have to say though that I found the ending a little sudden. That said, I will be checking out more stories from Lindsay Cross. Overall, this was a lovely story about two people who really need the love and support of one another to be whole. 4 and 1/4 stars for Cord's Chance.

Samantha a.k.a Sam Bishop left her life behind along with a toxic relationship in order to take over her grandfathers ranch. When bad things start happening she hires protection but that last thing she ever expected was to come face to face with her longtime high school crush. “I need you, Samantha. I’ve needed you for a long time.” This is actually the first book I've read by Lindsay Cross and it certainly has me wanting to read her Men of Mercy series. I loved the strength Cord possessed to get himself back up so he can continue to do what he loves for his country. Sam is a strong female who's heart is as big as her ranch, she genuinely cares about all the veterans she is working with. The chemistry between Cord and Sam was off the charts and even though the progression of their relationship was instant it didn't feel rushed due to their history. I know this is more of a novella but I wasn't ready for the book to end. I wish this was a longer because I really think the characters have a lot to offer and the danger that is lurking can certainly be drawn out more. But like I said before it was just the right taste to want to go back and read more by Lindsay Cross. “You make me happy, Sam. The kind of happy I didn’t know existed until now. I love you.”

Will they ever admit his they feel about each other? Will he feel tricked when he finally finds out what she does at the ranch and what the ranch is really for? This story is suspense filled, with action, danger, hot sex scenes and finally healing. I loved the connection Cord and Sam had. Also the way neither could get out of their own heads to realize their true feeling until it was almost too late.I can hardly wait to see what's next by this multi talented author.I voluntarily decided to review this advanced reader copy because it's a great adult suspense filled romance story and I wanted other avid adult romance readers to know it's so worth reading.

Cord lost his leg below his knee and feels a lot of guilt about missing something he should have seen. His whole goal, for nearly a year, has been to regain his skills mentally and physically to rejoin his team. He pushes his body hard, and sometimes it fights back. Mentally he mostly tries to ignore the issues. His commanding officer sets him up with a private security company on a one man mission at a Texas ranch for disabled veterans as a final trial to see of he is combat ready. Sam (Samantha) left behind her ex-boyfriend of two months the first time he hit her. She moved several states and using her master's degree in psychology and her kind heart turned a ranch she inherited into a horse ranch for the recovery of veteran's who were disabled in combat. Things were going well until recently when some cows were mutilated and a stalker was in her room while she slept. Now she has a private security company coming to help protect her, and more importantly in her mind, also her clients. Sam and Cord were high school friends. Neither expected each other when they meet at the ranch. They each have feelings for the other and issues to work through. Now Cord has more reasons than ever to protect Sam and keep her safe. Can they get their second chance and answer the mysteries? Enjoy Linsay's book to find out!

He lives with guilt tho because many of his team died in an explosion and he feels he let them down. An old acquaintance contacts him about a possible job. The man had a security company and needed someone to cover a job for him, for a person who had a stalker. Cord does it because he wants to show his commanding officer that he is ready to go back into the field. Samantha was shocked when she found out that Cord was her Security. She felt she knew who was stalking her but it had to be proven and stopped. Will he have another chance with Samantha? Will they stop the stalker? Cord and Sam didn't waste any time in starting a relationship but Cord did take his job seriously. He wasn't going to let anyone take Sam from him. I really liked this story. Cord was dealing with issues of guilt as well as the physical aspect of him losing half a leg. All he wanted to do was serve his country but he had to prove he was capable first. Sam knew what she wanted also. She councelled servicemen returning to the US after serving overseas, for what I assumed was PTSD. The end of the book bothered me a bit. I felt it ended abruptly, granted the story had reached it's end. I have read several books by this author and enjoy her writing very much. I would recommend this book.

However there are new characters introduced for Ms. Cross's new series Fury Security that I'm excited to hear about. Samantha Bishop needs to find out who has killed some of her cows and asks for help from Fury Security. Little does she know that it will be Cord her crush from high school who'll be sent to find out who is bothering her. Sam's ranch uses equine therapy for wounded veterans for whom she gives counseling for their PTSD. But she came to the ranch when a previous boyfriend became abusive could the attacks be linked to him? First she has to guard her heart and not let Cord know that she has feelings for him while they find the stalker. I loved the characters including the crusty fellow who stayed with the ranch after her grandfather she never knew left her the ranch. I'm excited to learn more about the veterans at her ranch as well as the men of Fury Security.

A Wonderful Story! This story is full of grit and determination. Cord has overcome a debilitating injury. His test is to go out in the field and see if he still has what it takes to prove that he can still be good enough to get back onto the Team. This story shows how Cord has to deal with so many obstacles regarding his leg each moment of everyday life. I also enjoyed the attraction Cord and Samantha rekindled immediately and it didn’t stop there! There is also sweet, sexy stuff we all love to read about. As well as a dangerous turn in more ways than one. I couldn’t put it down until I finished it. I would have enjoyed a longer story but I was not disappointed in this one at all. Great job! I loved it!

Yoo-hoo! Another Men of Mercy book, my favorite series by Lindsay Cross with Operation Mayhem following closely on its heels. Cord’s Chance gives us a life changing wounded Cord. What is admirable from the first page on is his determination to not give up but like his friends, to continue to push himself in his recovery. Taking the protection detail is just one more “step” on his recovery, fit for service journey. However, it becomes another life changing event for Cord. Sam Bishop is not in the Yoo-hoo! Sam Bishop is not in the least an old crotchy rancher. I loved the surprise of who she turns out to be instead of what Cord is expecting. Of course the chemistry between Cord and Samantha is hot and heavy as is expected in Ms. Cross’ books. Although there is an emotional intensity for Cord personally as he comes to grips with his changed body and flashbacks from how that all happened as well as he seeks a future still in the military. It is a story that tells it like it is for many injured veterans. Healing, recovery and finding purpose along with love is a story for all. 4.5 Stars The publisher/author gave me a complimentary ARC of the book which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed.
