I like that everything is from scratch, unlike most kids cookbooks that want you to use boxed mixes or pre-made items, however there’s only a few recipes: Pancakes, Sausage Balls, butter & jam sandwiches, buttermilk cornbread, oatmeal, homemade butter, maple cakes, lemonade, butter cookies, popcorn and milk, and homemade strawberry jam.

I read this book as part of a summer reading program at our library where we had to read a cookbook, make a recipe and take a picture and post it to the site. I love all things Laura Ingalls, and these recipes are easy for kids and fun to try. Then you can have a snack and read more Laura books. My daughter made the oatmeal and read this book for her challenge.

My daughter loved seeing how cooking was done in pioneer times with the little stock and supplies available then.

The Little House book series was one of my favorites that I read with my children. It certainly would add to the experience using some of these recipes together.
