Definitely another winner from Mr. Wheeler, as Amos and Sheriff Pittman pulls no punches in their ongoing attempts to bring a little peace and tranquility to their beloved community! This is an enjoyable western that is filled with action from early on right to the end. It is satisfying that good wins out and the bad men get their just reward. In this story, the gangleader (and his brother) are psychopaths. The relationship between the sheriff and main character, Amos, has a bit of a mystery that is slowly revealed and nicely resolved. A heartwarming aspect to the story is Amos and his brothers & sister. Their relationship and their sister’s struggle to be a ranchhand instead of taking care of the house is as engaging as the good vs. bad plot, and provides a lighter side to the story. An interesting element to the story are the familial relationships depicted by the various characters, particularly the gangleader’s.

Let's set the stage, since this is a 5 book series. Amos Cole is "just a rancher" in Lone Star. He runs the ranch with his two younger brothers and younger sister. He basically raised them all and is very protective of them. Norma Conway is after the leaders of a gang called The Dusk Riders. They rob, pillage and murder in small towns that are too scared to fight back, and the murdered Norma's sister. When Sheriff Jesse Pittman is looking for a posse to go after this gang, Amos' brothers are quick to volunteer and sneak off to join up, against his wishes. He gets sucked into the chase and then Norma shows up. That drags him in deeper. All of a sudden it isn't looking good for The Dusk Riders.

Good western This is the first novel I’ve read from this author. It took me a few chapters to adjust to his style of story telling. I’m glad I did, I’ll likely read mor of his works.

What I love about Frank Wheeler’s writing is that he doesn’t romanticize the west. His stories always ring true and this one is no exception.

Parental choice Amos has his hands full with the women in his back ground. Hard enough to take care bbq of himself let alone two females

This was the first book I read in a very long time. My kids bought me a Kindle for Father's day and so I had to give it a try. I always liked the old western TV shows so I thought I might like this. And I did. It was a very easy read and described the scenes well. I liked the action and the way the author developed the characters. This was the first book I read in a very long time. My kids bought me a Kindle for Father's day and so I had to give it a try.
