She arrived with her arts, her wits, and her only friend. In victory, her world has turned to ash. After rocking the cosmos with her deathly debut, Tamsyn Muir continues the story of the penumbral Ninth House in Harrow the Ninth, a mind-twisting puzzle box of mystery, murder, magic, and mayhem. Nothing is as it seems in the halls of the Emperor, and the fate of the galaxy rests on one woman's shoulders. Harrowhark Nonagesimus, last necromancer of the Ninth House, has been drafted by her Emperor to fight an unwinnable war. Side-by-side with a detested rival, Harrow must perfect her skills and become an angel of undeath — but her health is failing, her sword makes her nauseous, and even her mind is threatening to betray her. Sealed in the gothic gloom of the Emperor's Mithraeum with three unfriendly teachers, hunted by the mad ghost of a murdered planet, Harrow must confront two unwelcome questions: is somebody trying to kill her? And if they succeeded, would the universe be better off? At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

Tamsyn Muir's superpower is writing everything I want before I know that I want it. Had no idea what to expect from Harrow the Ninth after Gideon's conclusion, but this intro had me doing some intense closed-mouth screaming. (With excitement. Maybe a little bit of frustration at the full book not being out for me to chomp on, but mostly excitement.) The humor and drama of the Locked Tomb series work so well together I frequently don't know what to do with myself. Tamsyn Muir's superpower is writing everything I want before I know that I want it. It's a terrible, wonderful tease to read only the first act of a book. It was a very kind thing to release this much for free, though, and I look forward to the rest. "I cannot conceive of a universe without you in it" Yet it seems like Harrow has done exactly that to run away from the loss of Gideon, a reality she could not accept. It is torture to read only the begining of a book and not being able to finish it. The wait is terrible. Also, I have so many theories... I have a theory about who Alecto is 🤫
