It all centers on the Calhoun “castle” and the supposed buried treasure – an emerald necklace from the heroines grandmother, who is also somewhat present as a ghost and in flashbacks throughout the books. In the first book the girls struck a deal with the delicious Trent - CC’s (Catherine the mechanic) would be lover and real estate millionaire in order to make it into a specialty (haunted) hotel. The romance of the first book is in the very familiar old school Nora Roberts (almost written by numbers) style. Maybe I’m feeling nostalgic but I really enjoyed that aspect, kind of like comfort food you haven’t had in a long while. The second book – Amanda and Sloan’s story was much more interesting to me. Slaon is the rugged architect (and Trent’s friend from the first book) who comes to help renovate the “castle” and heavily make out with the oldest sister. Honestly, this was fun, a little angsty and all around delightful. It made me yearn for simple times and definitely get the rest of the books. I feel like the most interesting character is Lyla – the mystical syster. I hope Nora Roberts gave her a real treat of a love story.

The Calhoun Sisters contains two romantic stories from the Calhoun series which is set in Maine. Book one is Courting Catherine and is the story of C.C. Calhoun. He's the opposite of her perfect man, so why he she still thinking about him? With a lovely setting and a dip into the supernatural these stories are ideal for fans of classic romance.

I can’t wait to read what happens next.

Another brilliant pure romance by Nora Roberts with of course a mystery curled in the pages...CC and Amandas story are unique while the common thread of Ancestor Bianca is played out...will they ever find the Emeralds?

In Courting Catherine you meet the four sisters in the Calhoun family. Both stories are great. There are several more books about the other sisters. All great reads. There are five books in all. They now were four sisters that were wanting to keep the house in the family. When Trenton St. James wants to acquire the house for a hotel, he finds a very stubborn and determined C.C. Calhoun. I really liked him and she is adorable. She is so strong willed and not always eager to listen to his ideas. This is the beginning of the series about the Calhoun sisters. There is an ongoing search for a rumored emerald necklace. A great start of the series. Nora Roberts has the greatest characters. A man for Amanda is the second book in the series and Amanda is not expecting to find herself interested in the annoying architect Sloan O'Riley, who is working to convert part of the house into a hotel. They have a very entertaining relationship and you get to see Catherine )C.C.) and Trent again. Another great story following the Calhoun sisters. I love the setting, the family and story. Another winner from Nora Roberts. I read A Man for Amanda as a stand alone then again in a reprint combing the first two sisters into one book. Worth reading both times. I really like this series.

This book takes on the Calhoun women..Catherine, or CC, and her sister Amanda. They are very different. One has long dark hair, and loves to work on cars. The other is more prim and proper, and a control freak. She organizes everyone, and their families expenses, plus the hotel she helps manage. The story revolves around an ancestor Bianca, and her gems. There is a mystery about the death of Bianca, and what happened to her Emeralds. The family could use the money, with the bank breathing down their necks, and the big house, or mansion they all share falling around their ears. To make it worse a man named Trent, who buys and sells hotels, seems interested in both the house and Catherine. No one wants to sell, and I will not ruin it for you, but this is a romantic, and thrilling book. Lots of mystery, and romance. I own this book, and got it back out to read again. My copy is from 1989. You know it is a keeper, if I have hung on to it this long. There is also a romance in it for Amanda, but that is further along, and would require spoilers. Great read...

In these two, Catherine is the youngest of the four and is the first to find her fate. Amanda comes next. Neither is happy about it and both fight their attraction to what they view as the "wrong" man. Entertaining and fun and slightly suspenseful, both books are good reads.

I always enjoy a good Nora Roberts story, because they are quick reads with pretty fun plot lines. This was actually two separate stories in one book, featuring two of the four Calhoun sisters. Although the plot was somewhat predictable, there were a few twists and turns, and some pretty steamy love scenes as well. I'd probably buy the companion to this one, just to see what happens to the other two sisters. I always enjoy a good Nora Roberts story, because they are quick reads with pretty fun plot lines. I was quiet wary about reading this book because it was the first Nora Roberts book that i would have read, however once I started reading I couldn't stop. I'm in awe of how Nora Roberts captures the unique personalities of her heroines. Her characters really come to life on the page. I also enjoy the mystery of the lost jewels and the fate of the wonderful seaside castle that she's using to weave these separate stories together. My first try at a Nora Roberts story. It was only ok, so I stopped after Catherine. Probably the wrong place to start because I think I don't like novellas much more than short stories. They're too superficial. It seems like there should be so much more to the story. My first try at a Nora Roberts story. It was only ok, so I stopped after Catherine.
