The only nice thing I can think of to say about this book is that I liked that, instead of a white family learning about the Chinese New Year, it's a Latino family. Otherwise, I think this book is awful. Just look at that cover for a little while--really drink it in. I showed my roommate, who said, "They don't even look human." I find the art in this book incredibly offensive; the Fong family are drawn squinty-eyed and yellow-skinned throughout the book. This could be the best story in the world ( The only nice thing I can think of to say about this book is that I liked that, instead of a white family learning about the Chinese New Year, it's a Latino family. It could have the best information anyone ever wrote down about the Chinese New Year (but I don't know enough about the Chinese New Year to tell you if it is). With illustrations like these, I was glad to get this one out of my bookstore; I was ashamed to have it on display in the first place.

Chinese New Year book has facts in the back. Good for holiday lesson and multi-cultural traditions. Can use in class during New Years to show how different people celebrate.
